How do you reach 249mph battle speed for wanderer in TXr0?

I need to race that wanderer but it say's i need 249mph battle speed. How do I get that? Right now mine says 218 but when I race and beat a guy at 250mph my battle speed doesn't go up. What do I do?

I use the lancer 3 that you start off with, my top speed is 251mph.

You dont need 249 mph to race that wanderer. Just get in front of him, and he will challenge you.
