How does EVO III compare to the other EVO's?

Sorry for the noob question. I'm new to the game and thinking of modifying my EVO III, but if it has less potential than the other EVO's, i'd rather wait to pick up another.
I did grab an EVO III because i like the looks of it best of all other EVOs.
 
They don't compare massively well, my experience of GT4 was that the Evo VI RS Tommi Makinen and the VIII RS or GSR MR were the fastest, the III is, well, the third slowest!

The order basically goes (worst to best)
Lancer Evolution (as in, the first)
II
III
IV
V
X
VII
VI
VIII
IX.

At least I think so. The GSR's are generally heavier than the RS versions but have 6 speed gearboxes, and I think the RSes come without the AYC but the GSRs have it, at least the premium IV has AYC as standard.
 
thanks for the response. what about in terms of handling?

I knew i should have picked up a VI, i saw the TM version a couple of days back.

I'll hold off upgrading until i get a VI, can't see myself with the VIII or IX.
 
The Evo III was a great car in its day but the Evo 9 is the fastest Evo out of them all (speed /handling) The FQ Evo's are the only ones faster but there not in the game so theres no need to talk about them. If you have the money them I would just buy the Evo 9. The Evo VI has killer handling but lacks the speed of the the 8 or 9
