I've only just started playing GT5 and have a couple of questions (i'm used to forza btw)

How does the online racing work? If anyone could let me know some details that would be great. what's the difference between racing for real or racing for fun, how do you choose to race a specific maximum pp, are i couple of questions i have for a start.

Also there's a few events in A-spec, so far, that i can't work out where to buy the cars i need to enter with from??

Any guidance would be most appreciated

specifically i need a 4x4 for one event and there's none in either dealerships or the collectors place...

I recommend you play A-spec thoroughly before checking out online play.

Race for fun vs. Race for real doesn't necessarily change any details. Its just a way for people to 'brand' their rooms. So if I'm a serious racer I'll filter by 'race for real' so I can avoid "dirty" lobbies. (Dirty means you can crash into each other)

You can't filter rooms by PP if thats what youre asking. Just look at the titles of rooms, and hover over them with the mouse and it will show you the details of the room.

I'm assuming you are looking for a truck. Back in the day we had to cycle the Used Car Dealer over and over again looking for one. Now, you can just look in the "Online Dealership" there is one in there every week. Despite this, I strongly recommend you check the UCD very frequently. All of the best cars are in it.

First of all, welcome to the world of Gran Turismo and :gtpflag: . The way that online racing works depends on whether you're the host or not. If you are looking to join an existing lobby, then you can choose Open Lobby from the GT Life menu. There is no functional difference between a "Race for Fun" lobby and a "Race for Real" lobby. It's just that if you take your racing more seriously, you would be doing yourself a favour by only joining "Race for Real" lobbies because these are the rooms where clean racers often go into.

As for finding a car that you will need to enter an A-Spec event, you need to first look at the regulations (if there is any). Some examples of regulations would be FR for the FR Challenge, 4WD for the 4WD challenge etc. For example, finding a car for the FR or 4WD challenge shouldn't be such a problem. You can go into the New Car Dealership (NCD) and choose a car with a FR or 4WD drivetrain. Sometimes it's not that straightforward to getting a car you need. There is also a Used Car Dealership (UCD) and the Collector's Dealership (CD).

I see that you know about the CD and I know what event you're talking about. You need to keep an eye out in the UCD and CD because all the 4X4 trucks in the game are Standard cars which means they can only be purchased second hand. Premium cars can be bought in new condition and at will.

If all else fails, then if you have any (generous) friends on GT5 then you can ask them to upload a 4X4 truck onto their profile, which from there you can "borrow" their vehicle for offline races only 👍 . As a final note, I highly recommend you get good progress through the A-Spec mode and Licenses before you go online.

Thanks for the info guys, i'll keep checking the UCD. I've been playing Forza online for years so am not a noob to clean online racing, i just had absolutely no idea what was going on or where to go when i went to have a race online in GT lol. Despite these things i'm loving the game and have got some serious sessioning to do to finish it before GT6 :-D

You can also check the OCD for unused standard cars when you're online.
