Whats this?
A question to the network specialists:

Can someone explain how the online / multiplayer network setup of GT5 (technically) works ?

As there are several other multiplayer / network capable games already avaible i assume that GT5 uses a somewhat similar setup, but how is it done ?

Where are the servers located ? Who hosts the servers ?
Are there multiple servers ?
Can players host servers by themselves ?
Is it similar to i.e. Call of Duty 4 ?
Why can we expect better pings on a european / us version compared to playing from europe the japanese version ?

I would appreciate if someone could explain this for my understanding.

Regards

gt5 servers should be looking same as warhawk servers

No p2p then? I think that is what my 360 does and there is some occasional lag with players from across the ocean. I have only played COD4 online on my PS3, not sure if it was p2p like it's 360 cousin or not
.

I believe GT5:P is all P2P, given that the lobby size is determined by host connection strength and everyone gets booted if the host quits. I imagine they will add dedicated servers at some point, and definitely for the full GT5.

In my opinion, it doesn't work.

You choose an event, then get connected to random people of which one is the "host". If that guy leaves, everyone gets disconnected. If one person has lag, everyone has lag.
And finally, 99% of the time, I get an error trying to even connect.

Right now, online is nothing but random events with real people instead of AI players.
It doesn't feel like a community or even a place to race against friends. In fact, you simply can't do that.

This is the first peice of bad news I've heard, the P2P system used by COD4 is IMO a mess, we are always getting connectivity problems and the lag can often be unbearable. They need dedicated servers if we can race anyone from around the world. However if we are only able to race other europeans than maybe the lag may not be too bad because COD4 only got really bad when the trans-atlantic patch came out.
