How far do you think PD will go to support GT5?

So far we are at update 1.1 and this one made a lot of changes. The question begs how much longer are they going to make changes? The seasonal updates I think will continue until 6-12 months before the release of GT6.

How about changes to the basic program? Are they soon to be done or will they do a lot more? I personally think maybe another 3-5 updates.

What's your guess?

1) When will seasonals stop?

2) When will they stop updating the program itself?

Maybe some of the staff will be set aside just for working on updates, and will keep dong so until GT6. We don't really know how the staff is divided in terms of work.

You hit the nail on the head there. We don't really know how the staff is divided. I'd like to add to that by saying we don't know what they are up to at all. It would be nice if gt5 is a platform for gt6 and they continue to update it until close to the time for the next game to be manufactured.

Hopefully this is the case, and there won't be nearly as much work to do. Some tweaks to the basic structure, then just loading up on the content. Hopefully a couple staffers can be spared for doing updates and keeping GT5 fresh.

Is it still selling?

If 'Yes', then they'll still work on it, but if 'No', then what do they gain.

Maybe we are the testers for GT6. Maybe they will add stuff until update 3.07. That will turn your GT5 into GT6. But 3.07 will be available as DLC to GT5 owners for a tidy fee.

The Seasonals could go on for as long as people are still spending time with it, and they really require a minimum of effort on PD's part. It wouldn't take a lot of time to throw together some qualifications and choose what prizes to award. If there's enough people playing up until GT6, then it wouldn't be unrealistic for them to offer Seasonals through to GT6.

As for updating the program, I wouldn't expect that to run a whole lot longer; maybe the end of 2011.

There's actually a separate online team at PD working on the online portion of GT5. So updates, Seasonal Events, Online Car Dealership. The whole "regular" PD team is currently working on GT6 and will continue to update GT5, until the next title comes. From a hopeful standpoint, I believe this is just the start of GT5. From a realistic standpoint, this is only the start of GT5.

At least till Nov that will be 1year but they should provide support, it is really good. No game is complete and there is always some little things they can do, to make it better.

I wish they would support GT5 by selling us some DLC content, a drag strip and a few more cars, allowing them to make more money to help develop GT6.

I reckon until sometime next year. Probably by that point, GT5 should hopefully be more closer to the game Kaz was intending it to be.

Then they can just focus on GT6, whichever platform that happens to be on.

Last month I read kaz interview saying GT5 development until next 2 years.

For seasonal event, it is easy just to compose some rules.

The next 2 years thing was about the time he wanted to complete GT5 and not release it until then. That would mean the entire PD team working on the game, and not just some of them. Right now, it's just some of them working on the updates. Who knows how many people that is though.

Support in terms of seasonals (ooh and maybe some more racesuits-what a joke) would be through to GT6 and beyond.

I would think however, if they don't hand over cars or tracks soon... they won't at all and that any substantial new content will be kept for GT6.

I mean from a business perspective why give it away when everyone will buy GT6 for it? There are fanatics who will buy it quickly anyway or happily pay for DLC, but raw game sales that mean something at board level are what will motivate decisions, not whether we are satisfied.
.

Yeh seasonals are easy and i think they continue every month or so, updates will fizzle out at some stage but that wont start for a few months atleast id guess

I think GT6 will be a PS4 game so improving GT5 wont damage possible sales of GT6

I agree with you. Game sales motivate.

Which brings up another issue. Paid or even free DLC...think we'll get any, like new tracks or cars?

Customer satisfaction is a huge part of business though, keeping consumers happy and hoping to create brand loyalty in the process to secure future sales (not just short term profits), keeping us satisfied is serving their interest long term.
If the only difference between GT5 and GT6 will be the amount of cars (and tracks) then it would probably be foolish to offer a lot of DLC given the amount of time it takes to create Premium cars.
Since Kaz recently mentioned they were only considering to eventually offer some Premium versions of classic Standard cars already in GT5 and leave the new additions for GT6 the risk of having nothing left to add isn't that high.
And perhaps GT6 will regardless of car and track content offer something new compared to GT5 which will in itself persuade people to buy it, even when the amount of new (Premium) cars isn't as big as between GT3 and GT4.

Hopefully, but when do you run out of new ideas in a driving game?

This. I will gladly pay for some extra cars and courses, especially if it helps PD get the resources(ex: more people) to work on GT6 and make it a winner right off the shelf.

Your last two points are basically the same :p

If you go to PD's website: http://www.polyphony.co.jp/english/
You'll notice they only have 110 workers. They need to hire the most talented modelers around the world so they model lots of individual different cars and tracks. This way GT6 can have way more content!

It would be nice if PD considered outsourcing this time, just to get the content level up to where it should be. If they want to keep the company small, that's fine. Just recognize that some extra help would be nice, even on a temporary basis.

I don't think they'll stop updating the seasonal. Even after the release of GT5. Hopefully.

Updating the game? Probably until the game is complete enough i guess.
But i can be sure it's not until the release of GT6. :p

nice!

But not so nice. PD needs more workers.

It says in this one that there are over 140 workers.

The OP's link seems more reliable though. By that I mean, updated to be more recent

If they continue to add seasonals that don't expire then complaints about a lack of content will largely be answered.
I hope they keep them too. But they should update/edit the present events to change the tracks and entry requirements.

Not really. 99% of the seasonals or thereabout are really easy contests. Supercar for example lets you tune to 700PP but the comp is down around 620PP. That was a gift to say in essence we goofed on the CR system.

What would be really nice are some new tracks and new A-spec events; there's room above Endurance. Do I think we'll get 'em? Nope. Maybe some Std cars turned to Premium. Mostly I think we'll get little tweaks here and there like helmets & suits. Stuff that's going to be the little "finishing touches" on GT6. Major content they'll save for 6. I know I would.
