How good is a game that just keeps on giving

I am amazed at the evolution of this game. I paid money for a game (not the dearest game i have bought) and it is still giving me more than I originally paid for. Some will say these things should have been in from the start but we all know they wouldn't be happy with any game they bought. I don't now how or for how much longer they can keep giving us more and pay people to do it without more money coming in except for more sales to those that haven't bought it yet. I for one am very impressed and with the utmost gratitude I thank Poly and their team for all the input into the original release and the evolved product we have at the moment.
Been buying games from the earliest invention of consoles and have never been so impressed with the follow on support for a game. I have owned all Gt games and although I don't think they have the best driving physics ever, they are a most enjoyable driving game that has long jeopardy and I have spent almost all of my gaming time on GT5 since it came out.
Keep the special events coming as long as you can afford too, and make mandatory pit stops available and the ability to ban ABS and that will do me.
Look at that, I got all this and still asking for more, you have spoilt me rotten, thanks guys.
I thought you need to hear from the multitude of us out there how grateful we are for what you have and still are doing with this game.

I feel the same way:tup:

I also love how they keep updating the game. :)

Yes, I understand and appreciate the evolution, yet I see so many people who disagree with us:grumpy:

Why cant they be satisfied?

...because those of us who have been playing Gran Turismo from the beginning are irked that Polyphony has emulated an inferior racing simulator and added a redundant "experience points" system that means that progression is based on "grinding" rather than skill. If you get all golds for all races, licences and special events you should not be in a position where you have to repeat races in order to progress. And as for 24-hour A-Spec endurance races without a save or B-Spec option...you've got to be kidding. I love GT, but #5 is so poorly conceived it just gives me the rage...

I think so too. It's good that we've got so many patches BUT there's still a lot of easy stuff which I'd love to have like the ability to ban abs for example and the ability to use b-spec in endurance races.

Also it would be great if we could filter servers based on the tyre limit (or pp limit or weight limit or max power limit whatever). The worse the tyres, the better the racers and the better the race. That's just how it is.

Maybe because people know that the game could have and should have been a lot better than it was on launch day and is now. PD are trying their best to smooth things over with a lot of unhappy customers and to a lot of those people it's working, to others it's not.

Why cant they be satisfied?

I'm not swayed by advertising and false promises. I enjoy GT, but I'm not going to stop criticizing it until the really poor mistakes stop.

PD is upgrading the game because they're adding in things that should have been on disk from day one. It's true that they could have just left it as it was, in a complete mess, but that only would have ended up hurting them more, so you can't say that these updates are just out of the goodness of their hearts.

Beyond that, even if the game was near perfect, I would nitpick at it. Laying down praise isn't going to do much. Calling out the flaws provides pressure to bring about improvement.

If you are a fan of the game, you should find something you don't like and voice your opinion on it. That's what it comes down to. That's how you keep it going.

give me all the special stage routes all connected with traffic and time change

I must say I'm infinitely perplexed at the OP, when he states he has bought and played all the previous GT games and yet is so enthralled with the GT5 issue.

Er............um............ sorry this does not compute. :boggled:

I agree with you OP and love this game but understand why this game is lacking compared to other GT games, Its all to do with the level of detail of these new HD games, the time it takes to create the level of detail that is expected of this generation of consoles and the In house philosophy that I don't quite understand and hope they change that for GT6 and at least outsource the tracks and events.

I might be satisfied once they add all promised features.

I feel the same too! 👍

It's feels like they really care to me.

First I knew Test drive: the duel (1989), but racing one vs one in roads didn't like me a lot. The was the time of 4D sports driving/Stunts (1990). I mean, the racing part and track building. Also used an editor to 'emulate' different car specs...... A nerd thing, I know.

I discovered GT2 very late, then bought GT4 at day zero. GT5: yes, it should be better. But since release it's just the best sim in which I can drive both everyday and racing cars. And not just some, but dozens of them.
I loved the idea since I knew the franchise.
The updates are improving it, adding things I appreciated a lot.

Who cares if the gaming part is inferior than GT4? There are a lot of videogames, and Revolts or Toca race driver 3 sound very funny and developed in the gaming part.

If you like racing, you can find better software. But there isn't for the driving experience.

I could re-type it, or just quote it, he probably said it better than I would.
You can't improve if you don't know what you did wrong.

Anyone that enjoys a little thing called progress. ;)

^ This

The only thing GT5 has going for it is the online component, the rest is an incoherent, poorly implemented pile of pooh that frankly doesn't deserve the GT brand name.

You do realise the 'special events' aren't races don't you? I call it catch the pigeon.

Before anyone starts typing "if you don't like it just stop playing it and stop posting in these forums" while frothing at the mouth. I have stopped playing it. I come to these forums in the vain hope that there'll be a massive patch that magically removes the many flaws and actually gives us some offline racing against competent AI.

I used to be devoted to the GT series. It has been the only reason I bought my PS1, PS2 and PS3.

Since my GT branded, rose tinted specs fell off I have discovered that pretty much every other racing game you can buy has better AI and offline racing than GT.

I'm now playing a newer racer which is more challenging to drive, really punishes you for mistakes and doesn't come with an in built philisophy of trying to let everyone regardless of their skill level win every race every time.

If you enjoy GT5 fair enough, you have your opinion & I have mine.

The 1.10 patch certainly improved the AI considerably. Bob even tries to out-brake me in the corners or go around the outside. Some Bobs are more aggressive and put up a fight before they back off.

It's a good way the AI is heading and in arcade races the fun is back.

I simply think Yamauchi never reached a point where he felt the game was ready for release and they are trying to catch up. I appreciate this too but I still feel they need to focus more on correcting old errors.

I think Sony was putting pressure on PD to wrap up the game to get it released.

This game just has too many promises not fulfilled. All car interiors were supposed to be rendered, YouTube video upload feature, damage(debatable), and online leaderboards. Then you have Nascar, rally racing, and the Top Gear track that just seem to be thrown in game. Unfortunately some of the bigger issues are probably too big to patch. Also B-Spec is just terrible. So maybe 30% of the game is a waste for me.

I only play it online anymore in some of the leagues here from GTP. Atleast the online has many options for racing and setting up league type racing. If it wasn't for this the game would probably be collecting dust right now.

I wonder what sort of product we will have in a years time?

Has anybody backed up their save to a flash drive and deleted their progress... And skip the online update and run with what the disc has to offer... Its STUNNING on how much they have nade a great game even better... The queation of how long or what else they can update before the release of gt6 is beyond our wonder... But for now... Thanks PD for your efforts and hard work

Good response from all, some happy some not. I still think it is a big step up from the old gt's some say not enough, but like one commented, it is a HD game and can only put so much in with all the high graphics and so on taking up space. Some quote they were promised a lot more and some pick on the little things and let that overshadow the good things in the game. There are so many inferior games out there that don't offer upgrades without cost. This was what my main comment was and the responses in some instances turned into a bag fest, and if i don’t whinge they wont fix it, but there are better ways of asking than sounding like a winging spoiled brat and plenty of threads that give you the opportunity to do that (i have posted there). I guess it’s the glass half full half empty attitude thing, some people just have no appreciation for what they have got and no respect for those that gave it to them, spoilt little rich kid attitude thing, “give me, now give me more more more. I recon you need to go back and play the older games and came back too realise how far the game has really come and appreciate it.

yes PD rules, there isn't another studio with better "aftersell" service with so many free stuff

So now with the hint of DLC coming, I think PD is there where they can say the game is where it should have been from the beginning, but they couldn't because Sony wanted it out for the Xmas sell. There were some good improvments in every update and it makes the game better and better! After about 2 day "everyone knew that the game is unfinished" and could have waited till now before buying it (I know that rarely anyone does that)!?!?

I really love the game since day 1, but the reviews were very mixed and rather bad, to what most had expected. I believe if the game gets rereview, that it would get a lot better critics now and it's still no end in sight...
