How is it possible to lose 18,000 DR points in a single race?

I was 34,000 DR and 99 SR when I entered the FIA race at Monza. It went very poorly, and I finished last. Suddenly, my DR dives to 15,000 flat and a 29 SR.

Is the system meant to be this punitive?

If your SR drops too low, your DR gets reset.

It resets to 15K if you got below 30 SR, 7K if you go below 15 SR, 3K if you go below 5 SR

You can earn DR normally but can only advance back to DR.A if your SR is also at least SR.A. You still get the DR points, the letter simply doesn't change and you won't get the 1500 bonus points until the letter changes.

The system simply sucks since for those actually driving dirty to win, lower DR is only a bonus. At least since you were A/S, if you qualify, you should be able to get a couple easy victories on the way back up from B/C :/

ah man. so I assume those DR Points don't come back somehow when my SR goes back to S? that's a lot of progress flushed if not, seems a crazy level of punitive for a single race
