do they simply not use 100% throttle? do they crawl around the corners ignoring all the instructions from GT1 manual?

seriously, why is the AI so cack at the wheel? i cna buy pretty much any equal power car to fit the race, enter 4th on the grid and be in first by the end of the first lap of a 2 or 3 lap race. Thats not racing, thats spanking the totally uncommitted AI through every corner, and then driving to amuse myself for the rest of the race still managing to finish 10secs + ahead of the pack.

Why are the AI drivers so un-interested in driving quickly? i know they arent putting their foot down as i can be in an identical car and still walk away one each corner.

can PD do anything to fix this? its been the same for the last 4 GT games, waltz ahead and keep concentration for remaining laps...

OR give the CPU such a head start (typically 20 secs on a 3-5 lap race, or some other advantage) to make the race a challenge, although you are simply racing the clock on each lap to pull back on the leader. Can u stay awake for another 4 laps until the chequered flag?!

Only if im driving an extremely inferior car very badly do the cpu ever jockey me for position...

anyone else noticed this trait?

'Tis one of the big mysteries of console gaming is it not, quite how can ai be so bad in an otherwise great game series?

It's not like PD can't have seen other games ai over the years. Surely they could have studied it and tried to mimic it, or just simply ripped it off?

Have you been racing in the S-class events yet? Using pro physics?

yea... it doesnt make any difference...

like why does my car get a turbo boost esque effect on daytona off other cars when non of the AI seem to?!

ive pretty much completed the JPN version of Prologue now re-doing the UK PAL edition..

the difficulty in the S class events if being quick and staying on the track. its a challenge vs yourself not the other motorists....

Try an arcade race using pro physics and instead of using R tires use S2 (which is the default tires) or better still N tires. Kepp your PP (hp and weight) to stock and then race against the AI at the appropriate AI setting. You'll find the AI to be more competitive.

Is that the AI being more competitive, or just better equipped than you? Used to do that all the time with previous versions, downgrading the car you were in to make the challenge harder. The problem is the term 'AI'. I will admit that the competition is a billion times better in GT5P than previous incarnations, but they still don't race 'intelligently'. Like '750F-RM' said, it's not like they can't have seen what the competition is doing (surely they're not that complacent?!). Codemasters have/had cars covering their lines into corners, and then attacking you back out the other side. I guess perhaps they thought that people wouldn't want to bother as much with single player when they have the option of playing against real people?

My guess is that this is a result of tire management. Everyone burns their tires off while the computer is completely smooth. In GT3 I'd be pitting every couple of laps while the computer stayed out for 1/4 of the race. In the Miata race on Trial Mountain, the faster car would stay out for a lap or two longer than me. In the end it wouldn't matter because I would still be faster.

thats what I said. AI is good for 20+ LAPS and endurance racing. It's not good for 3 lap racing. the AI is awesome in my opinion, if you do not push, and race like you will in real life, the AI shines the most in this game.

We don't have any fear in playing this video game, thus we do things faster than we really would/should. The AI, while I hate to defend it, is probably driving more realistically. Most of us drive on the absolute limit of the car ALL the time. That also means increased tire wear, as mentioned above. They're not going to make the AI GREAT drivers either, or else the game would only be competitive for other GREAT drivers, which most are not. Our lack of fear, their conservation, and an "average" skill level all combine for what seems to be "slow" AI.

anyway that's my take.

It's just that the AI cars in GT5P are all equipped with an S2 tires, I think, so if you use a R3 tires in an arcade races, you're infact better equipped than the AI. And you'll find you will play cat and mouse with a similar equipped cars in GT5P, especially in a longer race.
Although the AI cars in GRID provide a great competition (I'm on my 23rd Season in GRID World), it can often proves more frustrating as they are overly agressive and prone to sudden braking (at the start) and more often than not causing a pileup right at the start. I hate watching a replay seeing my cars damaged enough to render it undriveable (and yet still winnng the race), so I often had to do 10 restart to get a clean start.

How can you defend/say the ai drives more realistically when they fly into you if you spin out on the track? The AI is absolute garbage and is really un-deserving on the title ai because it feels scripted to the max.

This isnt a slam, but if you know anything about programming, you'd understand.

Artificial intel is light years away from the real thing. There is a lot that goes into it.

Then why do other games have fantastic ai while gt has scripted men on a racing line? Look at games like F.E.A.R and Project origin, the ai reacts to the environment around it. Hell, even f1:06 has heaps better ai then gt.

I don't think that anyone is under the illusion that creating an AI in any shape or form is any easy task, just that the AI in GT has always been a bone of contention, when other games (not necessarily drivers either) have had far more 'intelligent' opponents, and have had for some time now.

they dont even have to be massively AI enabled to pull bad ass moves etc... how about they drive quicker and put the hammer down earlier in the corners?

if i drive a Teg Type R, and there is another Type R in the field, why isnt the other Teg cutting through the pack like i do? how come he;s content to sit in 6th for the entire race?

Even in even in class B i am at least 3 secs a lap quicker than the lead car using identical hardware....

it takes away the fun knowing that i can crash off on the last lap, get overtaken and STILL beat the ai on the last 3 corners to take back 1st place...

im no GT driving god, maybe above the average arcade player but if i can make such short work of the AI it tells me there is something drastically wrong.

thanks:/ not sure what that proves?

Anyone noticed how similar the AI will start each race, for example if i start an event, and the AI gets a bit wonky at the first corner, When i restart the race, and observe again, the AI will do exactly the same thing, even like 3-4 corners EACH time i restart the race...

there is no fluidity, or randomness at all. it seems 100% scripted to do the same thing every time.

the AI in the events probably ARE scripted. at least as far as events that happen between two AI cars, as long as there is no interference from user operated vehicles. but i havent noticed what youre talking bout in arcade mode.

the AI is more realistic as far as lapping goes. the reactions may not always be correct when an incident occurs, but as far as the speed and manner in which they navigate the track itself is more realistic.

also, the other integra will not cut through the pack because that sort of tom foolery is not programmed into the AI. the AI doesnt drive (too) dangerously, so it will wait for an opportune moment to make a pass and take the position when safe. most drivers probably frown upon racers who will cut in and out of traffic (race traffic that is.) its not good sportsmanship.

i never thought i would DEFEND the AI. yuck.

It's the old circle again. If they give us AI that is reasonably slow people will rant their heads off how easy it is to win in a similar car. If they give us AI that can drive every car to the limits people will rant their heads off how impossible it is to win in a similar car. Go figure.

The problem is not that they can't make the AI quick its just that they handicap them so casual gamers can keep up with them. so its the job of a good racer to make the AI harder either by putting the AI in a faster car or slowing their own car down.

Its not tom foolery, its called driving quickly...if my car CAN lap 3 seconds quicker, then so can theirs - probably faster if they were smoother than me too....

i can go to full WOT mid corner, for example, and pull away down the next straight, why does the AI not do the same? we have same car, same grip (I think), same BHP....as i said its like they drive around @80-90% throttle all the time...

dont kniow about arcade i just do the ABC spec race events...even the Daytona ones, you know when your coming up to the pack near the front that car X will go left, car Y will go right...restart the race, get up to the same point 2 laps in and exactly the same all over again....its TOO scripted.

Come on PD, make the driving simulator a racing game too....

forget the below average joe, he wont be playing the game 6 month from release anyhow.

Besides if these people cant win the race, all they will do is go buy a faster car, allowing them to compete evenly (by having less skill but more BHP)

BUT if they choose an identical car to the AI there is no way they should be lapping 3+ secs a lap quicker on a 1 min 30 lap time, its obscene that the AI is so slow.

My main issue with 5-10 lap races on GT is that the race is often won by lap 1 or 3 ish, and the rest is simply can you keep your concentration with an open track in front...thats not racing.. its...sunday driving at best. But this is the real Driving si, not race so is that what PD intended?
