I just got it a couple days ago and decided to install it to get the codes for TOCA and the GT3 game save.So far no matter what I do I can't get the software to recognize my internet connection(DSL) and the only time the PS2 will recognize my maxdrive is when I am messing around withthe software once I leave the software and am back into the PS2's browser the PS2 is no longer recognizing the MaxDrive therefore it doesn't matter whats on it I can't do anything with it. Can someone pleas tell me what is going on here?:banghead: I know that when I tried registering the software I eneterdything correctly. I was also under the impression that I would be able to install software onto the console so that it wouldrecognize flash drives. So far I can't see where thats going to happen soooooo, again, what am I doing wrong.

Thanks:confused:

The only way to use the MaxDrive on the PS2 is booting the software from the provided disc and then exchange data between the MaxDrive stick and the Memory Card.

If you've downloaded savegames from the internet, put the stick into your pc and copy the savegames onto it. Then boot up the MaxDrive software on your PS2, put in the stick, copy the savegame onto the MemCard, reboot with the game and play.

The MaxDrive will only work when the MaxDrive software disk is in the PS2 and running.

yup. it's maxdisc only.

also, if you have the OTHER disk that was packed with it,
put the program on your comp!
you have t set up an account to update your ARMax bits with the HD on a PS, I believe
it's easier to grab the updates off the built in programs with your comp, tho.
and make sure you read the Codejunkies faqs! there's a special technique for updating the codes.

Well thats helpful, thanks. Its funny, so far the only thing that has recognized the internet on my PS2 is my TOCA3 game. So I can just figure on not being able to update the GameShark or ARMAX via internet connection:indiff: I do have to wonder why tht is though.

OH, word of warning.

any online compatable games you have that are more than a couple years old have long since had their servers terminated

Sorry for hijacking thread ( am I?)

I have one question.

Last year I bought an ARMAX with the maxdrive included. Every time I go to the Memory Manager page its screwed up. The ARMAX is screwed. And I cant do anything with the ARMAX anymore.

Can I use the maxdrive on the GameShark?

I just got in my 128mb MaxDrive in the mail today and i installed the pc software it came with, without any problems. When i put in the usb stick and then put in the PS2 software disk it came with so i can transfer my save file from GT3 onto the usb stick it just keeps telling me to insert a PS or PS2 formatted disk. It clearly says PS2 on the disk and it is the correct region for me. I e-mailed tech support with no luck on an answer so far of course. I don't know what the problem is with mine. So at least you can use yours except for the internet connection.

Impreza Addict:uh oh. sounds like your disk might be scratched or fingerprinty.
the Gameshark software doesn't recognise or use USB devices. it saves some updated codes straight on the memcard. and needs something like 3 meg for ONE set of cheat codes if you add them on

Breakpoint: don't bother ever mailing ARMax's tech support. they have robots that say "go back to the site and do it right". I think they got spam buried at one point.
keep punching reset untill the PS2 reads the disk. I have a 50% misread rate on the ARMax disks. also, as I said above clean the disk!. also, make sure your laser lens is clean.

half the time, errors involving loading CD-ROM's or DVD-Roms is DIRT. you must do regular cleaning and maintenence on your disks and laser lens.

if you have a slim with a built in internet connection, it will autodetect the Update for ARMax codes. hope you kept the manuals.
I can't tell you about Gameshark, however. I seem to have gotten hold of a defective disk. GS still uses the Black backing, and ARMax uses the blue backing. these will give you major trouble.

Try placing the console on its side.

I've done that with my fat unit and my PSX's. my fatty still won't read the Gameshark disk, so I assume that it's either too scratched, or the laser's allready too weak :P

I will try standing it on its side, i forgot about that little trick:tup: The disk is a silver backed one and its perfect, not a scratch or spec of dirt on it. I took apart the laser assembly and cleaned everything in there so to make sure it wasn't that either. I have the fatty with a nice 160gb HD in it which i use HDLoader to rip all of my legally owned games onto as backups, they load so much faster from the drive:) E.G. in GTA vice city, when you go from city to city there are the nice load times you have to wait on right. Well, with it reading from the HD there isn't a single second of waiting:) I emailed the tech support before i posted in this thread the first time and they sent me the robot mail you were speaking of. So from that i continued to send them email describing what the problem is and all the specs on my fatty PS2, so hopefully they will get back to me with an excuse why so it seems that theyre disks don't read very well.

Use HDL. Problem solved. :)

You know, sometimes it takes a few people to see such an easy thing. I tried to rip it to my HD but of course it wouldn't read it. So i went back on what was said about it reading about 50% of the time and just kept reseting the PS2 over and over. Finally at about the 15th time it worked! Wooo! Now i just have to backup everything to my pc just in case there is a problem, i dont want it to delete my years and years of cars in GT3:scared:

That might be the problem, but I doubt it. Its the screen that starts to move up/down and split in pieces, and can never see properly to do anything. I have a fat PS2, with Netowrk Adaptor, I've been drifting im Midnight Club 3 for over 4 months straight, and still reads it perfectly.

I need a way to get that screen fixed. I'm even considering buying a Codebreaker...only $58,000 is really cheap...

WAY update...

sharkies and ARMAXIES, I've got the solution to reading problems with the disk itself, and this may help with saves as well.

for a PS2 to read the Gameshark or ARMax disk correctly without reboot, try this
start the unit without a disk in it, and press t(triangle) to bring up the listing of the ware's versions. go up to console, and hit t again. turn the "diagnostics" on for it to read the disk.
