How long do you think they'll keep making PS2 consoles and PS2 games?

That is the according release dates of the PS2 to each region. The PS2 is pretty much 9 years old in its technology once envisioned. Sure most of the games made nowadays are for PS3 Xbox 360 and Wii and PC and sometimes brought over to the PS2 and it isn't as graphically appealing. In my opinion the PS2 is one of the greatest consoles ever made. It popularized DVD media+playback. It has an IMMENSE and awesome lengthy list of games and also great games (also amazing exclusive games). God of War 1, 2. Gran Turismo 4. Jak & Daxter series. Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 [Yes I know MGS 2 was on Xbox and PC]. Final Fanstay 10, 10-2, and 12. Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2. I even love the original Killzone.

With all those points made and many more points I could make without this all becoming exhaustive...how much longer do you think the PS2 has until it's discountinued? They're only 99.99 here in the states...how much cheaper can you get? (79.99 maybe?)
Also how much longer do you think they'll keep making PS2 games even when the PS2 becomes discontinued? Will people still make games for the PS2 even if they're mainly out for PS3/Xbox 360/Wii/PC. Devil Summoner 2 is a PS2 exclusive (US release May 12, 2009) while yet not many people have even heard of the game, it's still a pretty neat game.

Well according to Ign's release date list 2009 will be the last year. Of those Motorstorm: Arctic Edge is the only real anticipated game. As for the console, as long as it's selling I think they will still produce them.

As far as I've heard, the PS2 still outsells the PS3 5 to 1. And even then, nobody chooses between a PS2 and PS3 for their next console purchase so I don't think the PS2 has much effect on PS3 sales.

It's more money in Sony's pocket and more power to them for it. Personally I see the PS2 being supported until the middle/end of 2010 for the US. Poorer markets around the world will probably have it until the end of 2011. Any announcement of a PS3 successor WILL kill the PS2, but I honestly don't see that happening for at least 4-5 more years with production beginning in 5-6.

It is still Sony's volume seller, and really is honestly a great deal considering it's highly affordable $99 price point and the ENORMOUS library of fantastic games made for it.

My bet is they'll still be selling some PS2's until 2012 in some places. They are still selling great and I recently bought a new one to replace my old dying one.
