How long do your shoes last?

I'm curious about this. I wear sneakers, Nike, Fila, New Balance, Merrel, and Sketchers. I weigh 310lbs. I don't have a standing job and I don't run around in the mud with my shoes(most of the time) my shoes last about 6-12 months.

What about you?

I guess I am about 180lbs. Work shoes last me a couple of years. Running shoes about a year and other casual shoes including Merrells, Gola and some awesome New Feel ones from Decathlon last me absolutely ages. I've had my Gore-Tex Merrells at least 8 years and use them all the time for walking and they still are comfortable with decent tread.

Less than 3 months on my basketball shoes. Loads of quick movements and direction changes in the game and therefore the rubber wears out quicker than walking normally.

My bowling shoes, to hazard a guess, are around twenty-five years old. Haven't used them much lately, though I tried them on a year ago (thought of joining a league) and they fit.

I have some work shoes (steel-toed construction work-boots, and old paint-spattered Nikes, etc) that have survived many years.

I also have a pair of . . . ahem, ah, dancing shoes, the soles of which are not too worn out.

I bought my Quiksilver shoes approx. 1½ years ago, they are still in good condition and I use them a lot.

I have a Power shoe, use it as my all-terrain shoe. Bought it in early 2009 and since now it's in a really bad shape, I only use it as my outdoor badminton shoe. My Nike Total 90 driving shoe (should be a futsal shoe!) is also in a bad condition and I bought it in mid-2007. I love that shoe and will get it fixed as soon as possible.

Currently, my everyday shoe is a Timberland Slip On. Recently acquired though!

I get a new pair of Nike shoes every two years. I'm very picky on the design(color, materials, and how the sole is designed) since Nike shoes are relatively costly. They usually lose their comfort and rubber tread(more than 50% of the thickness) after 1.5 years. Even with replacement pads it does not lengthen the life of the shoes for me.

The most deteriorated pair of shoes I have were a cheapo pair of hi-tops that I was using for work; the soles grew holes in them within 6 months. I've actually wised up now and bought some quality pairs. My DC Spartans still look pretty clean and new which I've had for nearly two years but I don't really wear them that often; my Etnies Faders which Ive owned for almost a year are still practically brand new even though I accidentally tracked them through a massive mud puddle at Soundwave, but I have a pair of Kustoms that I bought back in 2009 that were fine until I loaned them to my sister who wore them out in several weeks.

I'm 300lbs too and I get a year of daily use on average. I don't wear through my shoes, but they wear down enough such that the neutral standing position is compromised, usually putting my feet into supination at rest. I could still wear all my old shoes but I change them because I've had sprains in the past and it's easy to roll an ankle.

In my experience, shoes will last about a year of use. When I'm lucky, I'll get shoes I can still use after I get a new pair for yard work and whatnot, but it's rare. This year's shoes are actually pretty good. The only real problem now is insane wear after walking close to a hundred kilometers in a month. Not sure if they'll last until I get home, but I can hope.

I've got a pair of chucks that are about 3 years old now - they spent their first 2 years in usage almost every day, and for the past year I've been wearing them about 3 days out of the week. The damn things won't die.

I would have loved this if it were a poll. For now, it really depends. My running shoes lasted until I didn't fit them. My Puma suede shoes did not last very long, roughly less than a year and the soles broke. My new Adidas Sambas are leather and their quality is superb in comparison to what I've previously owned. I expect them to last as long as I can fit them, so almost forever. They are leather so the dreadful pacific coast weather doesn't leak in.

I get several years out of my shoes now. I own multiple pairs, so I don't wear them every day. I've developed a habit of cleaning them after every wear, though I don't know if that is healthy.

My K-Swiss lasted 2 1/2 years, and I still wear them to and from work and outside to do house work. I even wore them on my trip to British Columbia where we spent the week on ATV's up in the mountains going through water/mud/ice and everything else. I actually joked about writing to K-Swiss about the story of what I put their shoes through.

My shoes before that lasted around 2 years, although they ripped and needed to be replaced, and my 2 pairs of Lugz before that lasted atleast 3 years. I still have one of the pairs in my closet and use them in the winter, and the other pair is at my parents farm so I have something to wear in the barn.

You get what you pay for in most cases, and I've always thought if you're going to spend money, throw it at the things you use most in life.

1 1/2 years for the last 2 pairs I've owned.

I wear the same pair of shoes 7 days a week and only switch when going out somewhere that would need something more than running shoes. I work outside, full time and on my feet. My last pair were Asics 2140s and the pair I'm wearing right now are Nike Structure 13s and I've had them for almost two years now. I used to only weigh 130lbs but now weigh 170 so I'm sure the length of usage will likely go down a fair bit.

My shoes (brand, I'm not sure) for school have lasted since the start of last year, though the plastic in the backs is cutting me now. So I think it's time for new ones. My sneakers didn't last so long, I don't have sneakers at the moment, just school shoes (which are pretty much sneakers anyway).

Well, for the longest time I could usually get almost two years out of a pair of shoes (I always went cheap, so they were usually nicely air-conditioned by the time my feet grew enough to require a new pair).

My feet have stopped growing now, and I can buy nicer shoes (I think I have Reeboks now), and I can still go 2+ years on a pair. My current ones are at one year and counting. They're holding up quite well thus far - hopefully I can get another year or two before I have to replace them.

I can't remember my shoes much from a kid (probably grew out of them anyway which don't count), but plimsolls the past few years have been my major purchases and most of them don't last very long. All of them are except the last two on the list:

  • A New Look pair from 2 years ago I had to throw recently - the soles started to tear from the shoe
  • Topman pair started to go a weird colour after a year - threw them
  • Fred Perry pair - after a year had no tread left. Was like walking on ice in the wet - threw them away
  • Current Fred Perry pair of the same shoe (don't ask - they look nice :p) - nearly a year old and almost reaching the same fate as the other pair
  • A pair of Lacoste boots - a few months old now and feel like they're built to last an apocalypse. I expect these to last many years.
  • A pair of Clarks I have had for several years before I got into fashion shoes. :p They are still going strong - I only use them now if I know I will be going out into muddy places (which they've been to many times).

I have other shoes but they're stored away...

I only have one pair of trainers, that have lasted me nearly 2 years. If it's not broken, don't fix it.

My dress shoes are older than a lot of people on this forum. My everyday shoes, though, are only four years old or so.
