How long PD have been working on GT4?

I can't remember exactly when GT3 came out,but I herd that they started developing GT4 6 months before GT3 was released.Can anyone say how long it's been in development?

Well I think GT3 came out in UK(& rest of Europe?) around June 2001, so in Japan was probs early 2001 & US release was probs somewhere in between.

So probably around 3 years or so.

Devoloping since 6 months before GT3 was released? I think what they mean by that is they were thinking about GT4

No, game developers usually begin early development of game sequels (to established games that is) well before the previous game is even released. Especially games that come out yearly like the sports games. EA is usually developing 2 maddens at the same time.

they started working on it directly after GTC, I read an article about this and I only remember because I was pissed off that precious PD time was wasted on GTC.

Just remember though the handling & gfx lie somewhere inbetween GT3 + GT4, so GTC was probably more like a public beta test in disguise

They did say they would start on the next GT after GTC but they will have been working on GT4 way before GTC came out.

Like stated above, and mentioned numerous times around the forum, which can be found through the search utility, GT4 has been under development since 6 months prior to the release of GT3.

Pd said during the development of GT4 that they gathered some ideas for gt5 so I think they did the same thing with Gt4!?

GTC isn't anything near GT4, it didn't require big research and all that stuff like Gt4 is trying to do, GTC is just a special version of GT3 so I think it didn't take them much time to develop GTC but who knows! I'm just speculating. Somebody, please link us to a site where their is facts!

The truth is, PD is more than likely starting to tinker with GT5 as of right now (a full 4-6 months before GT4's release). Sony has given most of its developers early PS3 hardware to program for and since PD is in-house, they would surely have gotten the earliest of PS3 hardware.
