So I'm planning a 24hr Nurburgring online race with a format as close to the real thing as possible and I'm working out the logistics...
Each team will have a few drivers, and a manager on a second PS3 on watchrace (everyone in the same house). So I want to know if I can have 16 drivers AND 16 respective managers in watchrace.

Thanks for the help.
And if anyone is seriously interested in participating in what will probably the most awesome online race, email me at info@shifted.wurks.ca

I'm definitely interested in running a nurburg enduro!! But not about to give out a personal e-mail. My PSN name is the same as my GTplanet name though.

No more than 16 people can be connected to one room at once. Defiantly like your idea though, but not sure how many people are this serious

24H race online, you will need a hell of a lot of data

Like DaLightnin said, you'd end up with 8 cars on the track only, the other 8 spots going to the managers. Who has two PS3s and two copies of GT5 in the same house anyway? :odd:

Not quite sure how the manager deal would work either. Is the driver out on the track with the HUD off, and the manager tells him when he's scheduled to make a pit stop or what? Doesn't sound terribly interesting to be the crew chief anyhow.

Thanks for the answer guys. That's just what I need.
I'm afraid 8 teams is not in the spirit of the Nurb24hr. I'll put my thinking cap on...

Full details and rules will come out on wurks.ca but I'll answer some of your questions now.

Well I'm into real racing (Quebec RallyX 2wd Champion 2010 and getting into TimeAttack next year) and I think there are people out there like myself that love everything that surrounds racing, including strategy and teamwork - something lacking in the general GT5 format, no matter now you play the game. That is why we are looking for people who want a full experience.

Usually someone who has GT5 and PS3 has a friend that has exactly the same thing. Worst case, for an epic race like this one, go rent what you need.
But since we only have a max of 16 people in the room, we can abolish the need for a second ps3 by feeding 1 watchrace screen to a live stream on the web. That way all team managers can follow opponents split times via a computer.

How the drivers and manager of a team want to work together is up to them. We won't place any rules, we can't enforce/sanction. It may seem that the drivers only have to plan pit stops every so many laps and just race for 24 hrs.
The reality of the teams that will want to come out on top is that the manager has a high level of responsibility.

Coordinate testing to ensure the car is setup to be fast over 3 very distinct drivers.
Have to know the drivers weak/strong suits to place them on the most appropriate driving shifts.
Deal with changing weather
Deal with faster traffic from behind and feed the driver the info
Coordinate sleep and meals
Know how to keep the driver on pace if necessary or let him run slower safer laps.
Plan the strategy as the race unfolds to beat the competition

Also, you might want to take in account PD servers. I'm lucky if I get 2 hours in a room before I get the "You have been disconnected from the server" screen.

Ouch, that would throw a wrench in it!!

We are having a beta race that will last 4 hours to test the logistics, so we'll if it comes up. What do you guys suggest then??
Should I contact PD (good luck with that!) in order to lock something down with them so that we have no server problems?
Maybe SCEA??

This is probally going to be the hardest to overcome. I wonder if after you get it all set up, get some recognition for the event being the first 24hr online race and talk to PD or sony and try to get something secure. Or just try to get it promoted. Contact Pd and see if they want to put in a team!👍 Thatd be sweet. Just throwing $h!t out there.

Not much you can do. I turn off everything else in my house that uses internet and it seems to make a difference... or I'm just imagining things

But with a full room, it only gets worse. I'm curious how the 4 hour race will do, please keep us posted 👍

If all else fails and we do get disconnected from server, our backup plan is a yellow flag. Everybody climbs back into a room once they receive the new room number via chat. We have a yellow lap, then green over the line.

Man, full course yellow at the 'Ring. Sounds like a war zone.

Yeah, your right. Full course yellow is silly isn't it. We'll dump a "go,go,go" in the chat via the wurks.ca watchrace (organizing comitee), maybe after the last car makes it through the double esses. Can I setup a rolling start at the start of an online race?
