Thanks for the answer guys. That's just what I need.
I'm afraid 8 teams is not in the spirit of the Nurb24hr. I'll put my thinking cap on...
Full details and rules will come out on wurks.ca but I'll answer some of your questions now.
Defiantly like your idea though, but not sure how many people are this serious
Well I'm into real racing (Quebec RallyX 2wd Champion 2010 and getting into TimeAttack next year) and I think there are people out there like myself that love everything that surrounds racing, including strategy and teamwork - something lacking in the general GT5 format, no matter now you play the game. That is why we are looking for people who want a full experience.
Who has two PS3s and two copies of GT5 in the same house anyway?
Usually someone who has GT5 and PS3 has a friend that has exactly the same thing. Worst case, for an epic race like this one, go rent what you need.
But since we only have a max of 16 people in the room, we can abolish the need for a second ps3 by feeding 1 watchrace screen to a live stream on the web. That way all team managers can follow opponents split times via a computer.
Not quite sure how the manager deal would work either. Is the driver out on the track with the HUD off, and the manager tells him when he's scheduled to make a pit stop or what? Doesn't sound terribly interesting to be the crew chief anyhow.
How the drivers and manager of a team want to work together is up to them. We won't place any rules, we can't enforce/sanction. It may seem that the drivers only have to plan pit stops every so many laps and just race for 24 hrs.
The reality of the teams that will want to come out on top is that the manager has a high level of responsibility.
Coordinate testing to ensure the car is setup to be fast over 3 very distinct drivers.
Have to know the drivers weak/strong suits to place them on the most appropriate driving shifts.
Deal with changing weather
Deal with faster traffic from behind and feed the driver the info
Coordinate sleep and meals
Know how to keep the driver on pace if necessary or let him run slower safer laps.
Plan the strategy as the race unfolds to beat the competition
