How much of a nerd can you be?

Okay, first off, let me ask everyone to be nice...well, at least as nice as possible.

So, Famine can vouch for this...I am obsessed with the Matrix Trilogy, and have recently found an extremely good replica of the cassock worn by Neo in the 2nd and 3rd films (cassock=that long black priest-like robe/cape he wears). Now, here's my question: if you saw someone on the street wearing one of these, and it was well-made (unlike the myriad crappy Halloween costume versions that can be found at every Wal-Mart across the continent), would you have respect for the person, or would you join forces with others and form a posse which would proceed to beat him unmercifully and steal said cassock? Just wondering, because even though I would never be able to fork over the money for it, I would like to know how much of a nerd I would be percieved to be...

Here's a few pics, from the website that sells it, www.abbyshot.com:

I think I would run! I'd be afraid that I'd really be in the Matrix! That is a good replica. I wouldn't wear it everyday, though...

I wouldn't wear it often either...that's the problem with this kind of thing...where the hell do you WEAR it? I can't get in my car and go get some beer with this on, for fear I'd be rolled.

i'd say you'd be fairly nerdy. but i'm fairly nerdy too. anyone who doesn't go out drinking with his buddies, because he has to beat the next level of Dawn of War, or get that next skill in Galaxies, is a nerd. But the most nerdy thing i've heard of (besides Trek Conventions) is getting a tattoo of a game character. Apparently, this friend of a friend got a back-sized tattoo of a WarHammer40000 space marine character. the funny thing is, he's a redneck, all his friends are rednecks, and you'd never know he's into that stuff if you met him. and as cool as Halo is, a Halo logo tattoo is pretty darn nerdy too!(saw that in GMR magazine)

Eh... I know I freak my friends and family out when I talk about Vipers but it's mostly talk (unless I can try to get a ride in one). Anyway, I understand people have "DEEP" followings in certain things but there truely is a line that can be crossed. I'd either be very afraid that Columbine made it's way over here or you had some phycological(sp?) issues. Either way I don't think you'd be a nerd but a really big dork.

I wouldn't do much more than roll my eyes as I walked past you. I've got this badass (OK, it's not) referee jersey that I wear to all the Bruins games I go to. I think everyone rolls their eyes at me or makes some stupid comment.

"Kill the ref!"

The Lobby Reloaded Wool Trench-coat looks nice, but I don't see how it could possibly be worth 630 bucks.

people would think you were involved in columbine or something....lol.

i can be nerdy enough to wear my fignuts, medium pimpin, and other mc chris shirts....same with his music. but i dunno. whatever.

I would call that very nerdy. I'm not being mean at all, but if I saw someone in the street wearing that I would laugh. I mean people went to this thing called a Movie Marathon, which is where they play 3 movies in a row from 11PM to 6AM. The three Lord of the Rings trilogies were on, and they had to start earlier. I watched them go in, and I burst out laughing as 3/4 of them were wearing trenchcoats.

Now, as a GTPer, we are all friends here. So as a friend, I would (if you bought it) advise you not to wear this in public if you do not like to be ridiculed, otherwise go ahead. I would only wear this in the safety of my own home or other Matrix fan-buddies.

I am a fan of the Matrix, but I'm not that into them. My nerdish feature is the Grand Theft Auto series. At least half of my life is spent with this game, but thankfully I make a u-turn on my nerd-ishness and every weekend I go to parties. Good parties with alcohol and awesomely hot chicks (that I have no chance with what-so-ever, but it's eye-candy), not party hats and streamer parties!

Because he's spending several hundred dollars to look like Neo! N-E-R-D!!!!!!!!

But the trenchcoat does look good. Especially when compared to the stuff conforming non-conformists wear (goth, whatever).

It all depends on how much you give a s**t about what other people think. If you don't care and it makes you feel good/comfortable then go for it (people will think things). Personally, I would like one of the big cloaks that the Jedi wear in Star Wars!

I'd probably say something in Klingon to you and then walk away thinking "pfft, there goes another look-at-me-I'm-a-way-cool-Neo-impersonator-who-should-find-his-own-style-instead-guy".

But hey, its your life. 👍

I would agree with you entirely there, but Anderton did say he wasn't buying (although that's because it was too expensive).

Ahh yes, the difference between the Nerd and the Dork. It has troubled may for years, and will undoubtedly trouble them for years to come.

Anyway, for the record, I DO think this article of clothing is absolutely WAY too expensive, and I'm pretty sure the company knows it because they even make a T-shirt with a breast pocket that says "Please contribute to my AbbyShot Lobby Trench fund!"

But the company knows how many nerds are out there, and they are also aware of the number of garbage versions of this particular outfit. They custom-make one for you based on your body measurements (which you have to take yourself and send in the order), and it is made of high-quality wool (from Italy I think) with a nice satin lining. There's no way I would ever buy this, because if someone found out how much I spent on it I would no doubt get the third degree from them.

AbbyShot also makes replica clothing from Equilibrium, Blade, and Trigun, to name a few. Some of their stuff is better than others.

I think we've all got a little nerd in us here at GTP, but that's okay.

Don't do it. For $630, you could buy yourself and eleven of us GT4 :sly:

Much? Please elaborate Zsolt...:odd:

Cosmics name is Zsolt?

Duuuuude!

*checks his profile*

Whoa it is as well, is your second name Baumgartner?

Oh yeah, I must add an appropriate on-topic response.

Matrix thing nerdy yes.

It looks like pretty cheap fabric. I'd save up for an even better one. Don't forget the sunglasses.

You'd get my respect if you were next to someone in a good trinity outfit.

According to the website:

"AbbyShot's wool was custom woven (in Italy) to make the Lobby Reloaded design even more screen accurate. For a free fabric sample, please contact us with your Full Name and your complete Mailing Address. :)"

If you look closely, it is actually remarkably close to what Keanu wore in the films.

Neo's looked a little more plastic. It seemed to have some shimmer to it that this one won't have.

You're probably thinking of how it looked in the final battle between Neo and SMith at the end of Matrix Revolutions. It looked shiny and plastic-like because that version of the coat (as well as of Smith's suit) was specially designed by the wardrobe department to hold water and release it when the actor whips his arms and legs around (such as throwing a punch).

But the company also makes another version of the coat which is less expensive and made of a cheaper, lighter fabrig. But the buttons are absolute crap. Here are some photos (by the way the guy in the photos really IS a nerd, by the looks of it):

I spose you would have to be in order to wear that thing, lol. But eh, your choice. I suppose like someone said earlier - If you don't care what people think of you, do whatever you feel like.

Do you have a good photo of neo in his robe in the movie (when it isn't raining) that you can post?

Yes. A comparison would solve this problem, I bet you won't find one on the net by simply searching. Either they have comparisons on that site, or you will have to screenshot.
