A 1989 Oldsmobile Delta 88 with 160,000 miles. Just had a the Radiator Core replaced, always starts, decent Body condition, iffy paint job, and the upholestry on the roof falling down. (go to my gallery for pics)

and a 1989 Pontiac Trans Am with 171,000 miles on it. Here it is: http://www.cardomain.com/id/wkndead It doesn't stall anymore, btw. It has new Trans Am seats and a flowmaster exhaust. and a nice sound system.

I'm thinking about selling the first one and buying the second one. How much do you think I could sell the top one for and what is a good price for the 2nd one?

the oldsmobile you could get 500-800 bucks out of if its in decent condition, and a good price for a firebird trans am in good condition with that many miles should be around 1500-1900. thats if its in good condition, if you just happened to find one. chances are that most are in fair condition, so id say more like around 1000-1400.

$9.95 for the 88, and $50 for the Trans Am.
Wow, someone has high standards. I'm sorry I can't be like you and have bought 80 cars by the time i'm 18. Not all of us are spoiled rotten. I can't afford much, as my family was not blessed wth money. Go out for a drive in your no-longer mint mazda, and don't degrade us people who have to buy the beaters.

The guy selling the Camaro is gonna sell it for $750 w/o the stereo system, and $1000 with. The Amp alone cost $200.

I was joking. But in your rebuttle, you claim I have bought 80 cars by the time I turned 18. I bought 1 car, the Protege, and it was a cheap beater when I bought it. The clutch can't even hold the power that the 1.8 puts out. The converter is shot(it passed the emissions test, somehow), the back tires are dangerously worn, the car wasn't aligned at all. But little by little it all gets fixed. We are not made of money either, thus we drive old Mazdas(ok ok, so we do have a bunch, sorry, but the most expensive one was the MPV, $9K, the rest were all a very cheap initial purchase(then you add parts). I'm not spoiled either. I drove the 323 because at the time I didn't make any money. I bought the Protege 100% with my own money. I still have to pay for all of the parts my dad ordered, that'll be prolly over $500(yeah, he went nuts and ordered tons of crap I prolly coulda gotten elsewhere, but hey, I make money and with how much the car was I can spend more on parts).
Spoiled kids are everywhere. The kids with new RSXs. The kids that wreck a Cavalier and by the next week have a SVT Focus. Sadly, those kids aren't even car enthusiasts.

However, and it's your own choice how you use this, but you can find more reliable cars for the price of the Trans Am.

Dont touch that Trans Am. Really. That 305 is going to die, soon. I knew a friend with a high-milage Camaro--he paid $1100 for it ('82, auto, 305, fiberglass cowl hood and trunk) and within 8 months he had dumped $12,000 into the car (most of that on credit).

I predict that in the next year, these are the things that are going to break on that car:
1) Tranny
2) electical 2 or 3 times
3) Tranny again
4) alternator
5) rear end will start whining on the highway
6) etc.....you get the idea.

You could probably get ~$750 for the 88.

My brother and my sister is kinda spoiled since my brother got his 2004 Honda Accord EX V6 with everything he wanted and my dad payed for it before he even had a job! He is like 18 or 19 and VERY VERY VERY SMART! So maybe thats why? My sisiter wanted a 2004 Toyota Corolla S and again she got it too. shes like 19 or 20. I on the other hand is about to get into the schools drivers ed class in January! Cant wait.

Hey another poor person just like me. :dopey: I actually owned an olds Delta 88 very similar to that one. I would say if your lucky you could sell it for around $750. The Firebird Formula is very iffy with that 305 engine. Those are pure junk, not fast, and if you rod on it, it will not survive a few months. If the body is in excellent condition and the rest of the car is in excellent condition then mabey around $1000 is a decent deal with the stereo.

The guy that was gonna sell it to me rode it like a b*tch. I've already decided not to buy it. I'll stick to the ol' reliable 88.

What year olds did you have? What's weird is that my dad is starting to restore a 1979 Camaro... wierd...so maybe I will go from an 88 up to a Camaro, like you!

Our family has never been rich either.

My 18 year old brothers' first car was a 1986 Mazda 626. He still has it but wants to sell it.
Mainly because he now has a (getting tidier) 1986 Mazda RX-7 Turbo. He was born in 1986 too. o_O

My first car however will be a 1990 Nissan Skyline GTS-4, see avatar (it has slightly more power than the aforementioned RX-7, and the added bonus of four wheel drive). I'm getting the ownership papers this weekend and picking it up at Christmas (just so i get a decent present ;)).

He bought the 626 for about $600 and the RX-7 for $2,000.
I'm buying the Skyline for $3,500 when it is really worth over $7,000.

Smart move on avoiding the purchase of that car if he rode it that hard.
I have had several Cutlass' 72, 73, then something similar to yours around an 87 88. Here is a pic of my 1972 Cutlass after I painted it. click here
That cutlass was actually in a wreck and I repaired it and repainted. To see the before and after pics go to this page. Before and after pics
Actually my girlfriend currently owns a 95 Cutlass Cierra right now. It is white and must be in one of my pics somewhere. Its in pretty good shape and her brother gave it to her as a christmas present a few years ago. Spoiled girl.
Now for the Camaro response. It pretty much doesnt matter what you get when it comes to older cars. I have had Ford, Chevy, Oldsmobile, Dodge, Pontiac of all ages. I actually have a 67 Mustang sitting right in my garage next to the 69 Camaro. I bought it for my girlfriend this summer. 👍 The older cars are just soo much easier and cheaper to work on when you are a beginner. So if you decide to get an older car it doesnt have to be a Camaro. Personally I dont like to many of the Camaro body styles. Only the 69 and the 4th gens. :sly:

hey that sucks right now, but a month ago a was in a '94 kia sephia with 140k on it. went through 1 qt of oil every 2 weeks or so, sturts that where blown to hell and back, and axles with basicly no boots on them at all. the solenoid was messed up too. it won't always kick the starter on to the flywheel, but i drove that pos for months waiting and saving for a good deal. i looked at maybe 10 cars in the $900-2500 price range. the one i remember the most was the nx2000. the guy wanted $2700, i had like $1500 or so, but damn that was fun. anyways i waited for months for the right deal to show up, then one day a 94 mx-6 ls with 126k on it popped up on cars.com for $2400 obo. by now i had $23?? in the bank, so i went looked at the car with 2k cash on me and bought it for $1900. so just take your time and don't rush from one pos to another one.

What he said.

Very smart to just stick to a piece for as long as possible. Me, I just got nailed in an accident wtih my 94 Tercel wtih 140k on it... that thing smoke oil like... yeah. ANd I had just replced the struts for autocross (yeah, I raced a Tercel, and got 3rd in class) But now I'm getting some insurance money... not much, but some.

While I had bought an 87 MR2 for $500 that I was gonna get running (bunch of little things that need to be hooked up and fixed) with this new infusion of money, combined with me saving much of my ass off, I'm looking at getting an 87 MR2 with the 20 Valve swap, exhuast and intake, Tokico struts, racing seats and belts, weight reduction, wheels, ECU, battery stuffs, sway and struts bars, and body work... for $4500.

Just wiat, and be patient, and get exactly what you want, or at least alot like what you want. Its better to get a good deal later than a pfft one at first, and watch it fall apart :P

Hmm.. a Tercel is not a bad choice I know a guy who owns a 03 or 04 white EVO and used the EVO for track and autocross while the Tercel for daily driving. He also did alot of crazy things on dirt bikes and sport bikes. He told me about one time during some type of sportsbike rally from point A to Point B they were doing about 150-160 with almost no traffic! He said he couldnt tell me the place except it was outside of FL. He about a month ago bought a green 3000GT and had BIG plans to go racing with them like autocross and the track. Now I am not sure what he is gonna do I think he told me he was gonna sell the 3000GT. I will have to ask him when I see in I think in a few days.
