I wish to know what are the techniques you guys use to keep the competition against the AI. At about 50% of the game you start to win cars very superior than the AI will drive, so, wont be fun...
I thought of preview the race and see the cars they're using, but that wouldn't be very effective. Is there a table that shows the HP of AI in every race/tournament?
Thanks!

Kideng was working on such a database, but I've no idea what happened to it. My advice would be to send him a PM.

Basically use very few mods on your car and test it, against the AI. That's the only way I can think of to keep the game fun.

Hi, dkstz, and if I didn't say it already, welcome to GTPlanet.

It is true that you start to win the same types of cars as the AI racers, but in later amateur and most pro races, the AI gets a power boost. So they are not necessarily running untuned cars, even in the race cars.

One thing I usually do is enter once in a likely car, and qualify. If I can get the pole position by more than 1 second, I reduce power or put on harder tires. Then I enter the race a second time without qualifying, and start from the back.

The other thing you can do is run a lower class of car: for instance, the C-West Silvia and Autobacs MRS are JGTC-300 calss cars, compared to the others, which are GT-500 class cars. So they are down on power in stock form and you can adjust as necessary to make a good race.

Good luck - it's good to see people who like to fight for a win instead of driving the GT-One road car in the PD Cup.

Indeed... the game would be very boring if that was the cause.

I like pushing it, like use the MR2 GT-S in the Pros, or the Trueno for the FR races in the Pros... and my Vitz pwns. I just stick with cars and tune them as needed... if I can't seem to win a race, after trying to qualify for ever, maybe I'll add a few HP or something, and see if that gives me what I need, or tweak this or that...

There is no replacement for having decent AI who can drive fast (without cheating). But that is not present in GT3. So you have to compromise. Having a car that is lower powered than the AI is OK but the racing feels silly because you are always getting passed on the straights then passing the AI back in the corners.

In the shorter races at least, I find it's better to run very hard tyres, so you have less grip. That way the racing with the AI can be more realistic.

Personally I'm not much of an expert on this topic. Instead of making bizarre compromises to make completing the game challenging, I just don't bother with racing against the AI. I find hotlapping, just driving by myself, to be far more exciting and fulfilling than racing against 5 artificial opponents who are incapable of cornering effectively.

Also, what if you want to have a challenging race in your Toyota GT-ONE? You can't do it, because the AI are so rubbish you will beat them in a totally untuned GT-ONE.

A far better challenge is to see how fast a time you can set in the GT-ONE at the S-8 license test.

My first few times through GT3 I lived in the 094/s. Since then I have been up to the challenge of not winning by three laps in a five lap race. So I would have to say it is up to you what to drive to present a challenge. If you aren't great at corners, don't get a car that is blinding in the backstretch to make up for it. Learn to corner and lower the HP. Have fun with it until GT4. :) And welcome to GTP.
