How often do you change oil?

My stock Z06 (C6) had lost a little power and torque in less than 150 miles, I'm assuming this is part of the damage model and (ignoring upgrades) this will continue until fixed by an oil change.

Is my assumption correct or is that Chevvy dealer a just a spiv? ;)
 
i would change the oil immediately upon buying something from the used dealer unless it is a fluke car with zero miles on it. the oil has always been dirty on used cars in my experience.
 
Mmmmhh never change oil, i change it only for 2 reason: 1) if i buy used car 2) if i fully tune a car, after i change oil for some extra hp!
 
I change my oil even when I buy a new car. If gives you increased torque or HP sometimes by a large margin.

I typically change it every few races.

In real life if you were racing a car you would change your oil after every intense high RPM race... I know I would! It's a little something called preventative maintenance.
 
I'd try to change the oil on some of my new cars and it'd deny me saying an oil change is not necessary. Still trying to figure out the accuracy of the oil changing feature, as some of my cars have over 300 miles and oil still looks clean. In real life I'd change the oil on my cars after a few runs at a track.
 
I change oil when ever i get a car, new or used. I usually do upgrades to it first (if i'm upgrading it immediately). Races wise, I change it ever 5 to 10 races. Generally in a championship, I give it an oil change before i finish, and right after I finish. Though it doesn't lose much (after doing the PD cup, my f1 stealth lost 1 hp and 3 lb-ft of torque), but really, it's only 250 credits. that's chump change. So I just spend it to restore it, assuming I don't do an overhaul on the engine.

Btw, if you do the PD Cup, and have a stealth car. USE IT. When I did it, I got so infuriated with the AI blocking me, punting me, and slamming me into the wall, i kind of went crazy and drove like a mad woman late to her wedding.
Hit quite a few walls (especially on the nordeshielfe). But the great thing is that repairs for both the engine and chassis on a stealth car is only 500 cr.

while a small bump in my LF-A (probably a 25mph crash into the invisible wall) is asking for 138,000 credits to repair
 
This used to happen on GT4 as well. I change the oil everytime I buy a used car and whenever I notice my car losing power on the graph.
 
While the "wait for oil lamp" suggestion certainly works, you'll definitely notice performance drops before then - if not actual then at least statistical. For example:

I have been driving my Tony Stewart IMPALA around Indy for the American Championship to farm some money. That's 5 laps on a 2.5 mile track. I did it probably about 10 times in a row without touching my oil. When you check its stats in the garage, its HP went down from 892 (normal) to 850. Changing the oil brought it right back up.

A good rule of thumb, if you really want to pay attention to it, is to change the oil in a given car after each series you do with the car. Otherwise, it should simply be a "I haven't change the oil in a couple of races" realization that has you change it. Either way, waiting until the oil lamp comes on means that you've wasted a lot of potential power, especially when you consider a change is only 250cr, and you earn far more than that from the Sunday Cup alone.

Crashing has no impact on chassis or engine repairs.

lol does the oil light really come on ? never even noticed. i wondered if that oil change option was a gimmick lol. i wish there would be a popup screen w/ a character dude that would give you tips/ alerts/ suggestions... like a mechanic buddy or something...
 
Everyone might want to change oil more often than they think.

I noticed after only 100 miles on some new cars I lost up to 10% power. Then I check other new cars with very few miles (under 10) and the power went up. The color of the oil didn't look any different (or blackened) on these.

And of course I change it on used cars.

I know not engine, but not chassis either? Where did the 138k bill come from then?

Because it's a flat rate based on the Dealership value of the car. It will always been 138,000 on that car, even if you only drove it 1/4 mile.
 
I just got my Toyota Minolta from Like the Wind. I checked the hp and it was 898hp. I changed the oil immediately without driving it. The hp was then 923. 25hp jump for just an oil change.
 
i tend to change my oil every 2,000 kms and i try to be exact as the light does not come on till about 3,000 kms has been raced, my 787b stealth had dropped to about 700hp by then.
 
I generally change after every 5 races if they are short. After every championship, after every endurance race, every time I come back to the Gt Home for another car and of course it is the first thing I do when I buy a new car.

Look at your HP when you buy a car. Look at it after you change the oil. Look at it after you run some races and see how it is lower and then change the oil and look again and see the difference.

It seems that new cars will gain some power during the first 200 miles as they are getting broke in and then will loose power after a few thousand miles due to engine wear but the oil causes power changes in very short periods of time. Change it early and often for best results.
