How on earth would a pit crew change the tires on an X1?

I'm taking a quick break from grinding the Indy 500 right now, and after pitting twice and watching the crew magically put on a tire through the side covering of the tire well I figured that I've gone and discovered the fatal flaw of Red Bull's car of the future. I mean that's a solid piece of carbon fiber, so how would they expect to run a race longer than 20 laps?

Do you mean the wall on the rear wheels? I never really noticed it. I never pitted the X1, so I can't tell.

I think the pit crew would be less worried about the tires surviving and more like their driver surviving the G forces.

The pit crew doesn't even do anything really, not compared to F1 2010 anyways. The tires and fuel are magically changed and filled up lol. I lol'd the first time I pitted in GT5 during the FGT Championship.

GT4 handled this by simply cutting the camera away from the tire changes for all cars that had covered wheel-wells, but GT5 doesn't for whatever reason.

I'm not really sure with the design of the X1 that you could survive 20 laps.

The same way they did it with the Group C Jag that's in the game. The panel is removable, which would add time yo a stop but presumably aero efficiency in yaw sees a significant improvement.

Not Offending anybody but an X1 is not a real car. They are for losers only but i used it of course for the Vettel Challenge ( a loser for that too) and have not use it again :)

You mean that it's fake?? :scared: No way!

And I can't tell you how appreciative I am of your answer to my question. You really cleared that up a lot for me...

Perhaps on a real car, there could be a hole/flap that could be moved so that access to the wheel is possible. The car would need to be suspended about 3 ft above the ground to slip wheels in/out, though:dunce:

I know for a fact that the first Porsche to ever win at Le Mans (not overall) was a 356 with covered wheels in 1951.
Either they made the tires last all 24 hours, or they took the covers off some how.
Let's see if I can get a pic...

EDIT: here's a pic:

I brought this up a long time ago but the covers on the X1 are actually holograms.

How long would it take to undo a couple of bolts on that Porsche. Same with the X1, a few bolts and there you go, a wheel. Although the pit crew should be more concerned with finding a tire that could handle the g-forces of the X1. I'm not too sure, but I read somewhere that the hardest challenge with building a real X1 is the fact that there are no tires that could handle the g-forces while being soft enough to provide traction, similar to how a Veyron Super Sport could only travel at top speed for 37 miles before the tires explode.

And LOL at the guy who pointed out that the X1 was fake.

Also when you pit, the fuel is poured all over the spoiler
Also if the X1 is for losers then why did adrian newey design it and Vettle do all the simulator work for it?
Now i'm not a red bull fan at all, im a mclaren man through and through but I still wouldnt call either of them a looser really. There is a reason that any car designed by adrian newey is fast.....

Another glitch - change rims for a car and come into the pits. The pit crew will out the original factory rims on and they will change moment they get on the car.

Also remember that the pit cam was added as and extra in an earlier patch.

As Brock1Samson9 has mentioned, they'd simply use a flap like the Jag XJR12 and the Chapparal 2J:

PD just haven't modeled it in as they probably felt it wasn't necessary.

EDIT: Come to think of it, no-one seems that concerned on how PD think cars are sprayed either... ;)

It's still a bit of a irritant, are the absence of visible wheels something to do with the aerodynamics?

Yes. Less disruption as it is obviously a smoother surface...

It has everything to do with aerodynamics. A moving wheels churns up the air, so putting a cover on it smoothes it out and makes the car more efficient and slippy, but you lose time changing wheels. The Jaguars pretty much only ran with the covers on when they were at Le Mans. They weren't really worth the hassle anywhere else.
