Well we've been getting bad weather here in az, and I have this $20 belkin surge protector, but was wondering should I turn off my psu, unplug the power cable from the psu, turn off the surge protector and unplug it from the outlet in the wall every night, just to protect my new gaming rig? I lost my older computer from a power surge and just want this new computer to last a long time :) , is it worth doing all that every night or does the surge protector do all its supposed to.Thanks

I unplug the surge protector from the wall every time it storms here. I don't do it every night, though. I'm not sure if you need to have it unplugged in order to prevent power surge damage. I do know, however, that if lightning strikes your house, your comp is fried no matter what, even if it is unplugged. (Unless it's under a lead blanket or something...)

I do the same, keep it on a surge protector that I unplug everytime a storm rolls in. I'm not so sure about a guranteed computer explosion if your house is struck. A few years back my house was struck pretty bad; took out 2 tvs, a phone, but both of our computers were fine (both plugged straight into outlet). Maybe I was lucky...

When you unplug your stuff, make sure you unplug your form of internet connection. I know a couple of people that have fried some things that way. ;)

Whatever you use for your internet connection is what I meant. It's either a telephone cord or an ethernet cable. A USB cable isn't used for internet. But you know what I mean.
