i was doing some testing on Daytona road course at night (set to 23:50) and the results are quite suprising. all cars are tuned as close to 630pp as possible and running race hard tires because i was trying to pick a car to do the Ib night races. as you'd expect, the chaparral 2j has the best time, peaking at 1:38.079. but then the second fastest car is quite a shocker. it's the '06 gt with a 1:39.784. why is that a shocker? for being about a second and a half off of the 2j for 1, but for being over 5 seconds faster than the gt lm race car spec II and the test car! (actually, the test car is aout 3 seconds slower and is still on the leaderboard, but the race car has been bumped off the list by the one77, which is over 6 seconds slower). i was also testing the corvette zr1 '09 street and race cars as well as the orca viper and the '13 viper. all the race cars have been knocked off the board by street cars! that shouldnt happen, given the same PP, right? but all the street cars are about 2-5 seconds faster than the race car counterparts. somehow, not even the r18 could touch the gt. weird.

Since Daytona Road has a lot of long straight, you need a car with power. Street cars generally have more power at a given PP than race cars, since race cars have lots of downforce. Also, since race cars have all that downforce, they will be slower on the straights.

but the road cars were just as fast through the corners! if i had the ambition i'd test them all again on something like gt arena or eiger nordwand.

Then, no offense meant, but your not driving the race cars to their full potential. You were on the same tires right?

yep, race hard. even if i wasnt driving them to their full potential, that doesnt explain why they were consistently 2-5 seconds slower than the road going versions, with less than 30HP difference in most cases. and the race cars are usually lighter. the PP rating system is seriously screwed up. as much as i love mustangs, there is no way in hell any of them can out run the jag xkr-s, yet both the boss 302 and the gt500 '13 have higher PP (native and fully upgraded).

Yes, the PP system is screwed up. If you were to take them to a track like Spa, were you need to have great high speed cornering, the race versions would be faster.

guess i was wrong, there is actually a minimum of 50hp difference, with the gt having over 100hp more. i should fact check before typing.

i think i might start another thread to see how i stack up against all other members using 3 unmodified, untuned cars on 3 different tracks. time to go get that sorted.
