Don't spend too much on one day when you got the rest of your life to spend with your wife.

Congrats by the way.👍

Marriage if it ever happens for me is a looonnng way off, but I just don't see how people can spend so much and stress out over a storybook wedding, to the point of being in debt thousands of dollars before you're even married. I wouldn't be cheap about my wedding, but I can't imagine I'll be spending tens of thousands of dollars on a wedding.

Ask all the women you know and you'll have your answer. I don't understand it but women seem to think that spending $20k on something that will happen only once(what planet do they live on) is much smarter than spending that money on ANYTHING else.

The missus and I spent about $5k, with the honeymoon, and we just shopped around for the best of what we wanted. We found a great mid-priced restaurant on the ocean (we return every year for the anniversary, and there's usually a wedding occurring), rented a few tuxes, recorded our own music, found an awesome bakery for cake and desserts, kept the wedding party to a minimum, and invited about 50 guests/family on total (most people don't want to be obligated to buy gifts). A lot of other things we got in the cheap, or they were gifts in and of themselves: Mother's wedding dress, limo service as a gift, party favors donated...everything went together perfectly.

I've attended much fancier weddings and receptions, and all that complexity is a nuisance if even one thing goes wrong; and then they complain about it every year.

Let your wife-to-be have her way. You worry about the rehearsal dinner and speech.

This! You will have a much more enjoyable and memorable day if you allow her to do this!

Firstly: congratulations

Secondly: don't plan anything

Thirdly: don't get married, stay engaged for the rest of your life.
