How to block spam text messages?

Hi all,

I've been receiving some annoying spam text messages recently. I think I know where from - a website to a club crawl event that gave you free access if you signed up and provided a mobile number. Bit silly I know, but I didn't expect it to be this annoying.

I have tried texting "STOP" to it like any ordinary service would allow you to do, but there is no valid number to send it back to. I have tried blocking it, but with the same failure - no number...

I was wondering how you could block something like this?
 
I haven't needed to use it yet but AVG just released an update that includes call and text message blocking.
 
Call your provider and give them the details of what is sending them.

I'm trying a Blacklist app now, but won't know for a few days as they sometimes have periods of no activity. I was hoping not to use an app of some kind.

Giffgaff have a 7726 spam complaint service I just forwarded several of the text to. Hopefully both of these methods will stop it!
