How to capture exhuast flames

Hey, just wondering how u can take picture of exhaust flames? I've got my car, played a replay, paused it where there's flames coming out, go to take a picture and when the picture appears, the flames aren't there? Is there something I'm doing wrong?

It's in the split second you take the photo, it's gone, basically you're too late, it's hard, but easier with the new replay buttons, check the photomode forum there's an entire thread dedicated to it, "taking pictures of backfire"
