I'm trying to get my custom music to work online. Read in order for it work online, voice chat needs to be disabled in the lounge. Do I have to mute each player or is there another way?

I just tried muting each player in an open lobby but the custom music wouldn't play but we were still in free drive mode (before the actual race). Does the custom music only play during the actual race?

EDIT: BTW, mod's, feel free to move this to GT5 Q&A if you feel necessary.

It won't work online, due to copyright reasons I believe (Someone correct me if i'm wrong).

it was supposedly changed in patch 1.06.

See the changelist here under "gameplay"

"Personal BGM can now be used when voice chat is disabled in a [Lounge]."

Possibly it has to be disabled by the Lounge owner? (thus no chat for everyone in the Lounge). If so, that kind of sucks. Maybe I'm wrong though.

Well my issue is a little different, but i'm having a hard time searching/finding the right place to ask about it.

I don't use BGM anyway beceause i need to listen to the revs of the engine for gear changes. I find music and voice chatter extremely distracting.

I read in the online manual that i can disable a player's mic if i don't wish to hear his irritating noises. But whenever i've tried to do this by going to the player's ID & pressing ^ no such option appears on the sub-menu.

I'm getting so frustrated with having to put up with their rubbish, it's putting me off choosing the best lobbies, just so i can have all mics turned off. I don't wanna hear it!

There must be something i'm not doing... Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

To use custom music, it has to be turned off entirely in the room you are in by the room host. Not just you muting all of the other players.

Not trying to use custom music mate. Just trying to turn off what i'm hearing form other players' mics.

I love to have my full surround sound system up & enjoy the roar of the engines. It helps feel like i'm really in the car.

Then i get bombarded with "ANYBODY GOT A MIC?" Booming so loud that i instantly have to turn it down. Then they're drowning out my engine...

Essentially, this issue is ruining the online experience for me. :(

If hosting a room, I would say just turn the voice quality option to off..if while joining a friend's or public lobby I would quickly select any player that comes in and individually mute them; a lazier way would be to get a cheap wired headset and set the voice chat audio out to it in the PS3 menu.

1 - you can only mute people that have voice chat enabled, select player in lobby list by pressing triangle then select "mute". If you are lobby host you can disable voice chat by pressing triangle and selecting "turn off voice chat"

2 - you can only listen to custom menu music online if you are in your private lobby with voice chat disabled. You are the only one who can hear it.

I thought if you the creator of a public room, you can disable mics, and get your custom music to work?

It works for me, check again, it says "mute audio".

The option 'mute audio' was ghosted out. However, for the 1st time ever, the option has just become available for me. So i'm now able to focus on my driving in peace.

It is strange that it never used to let me, but at least now the problem is solved. Thanks for the replies.

Cheers. :)
