how to drift like a pro?

i see these cool drifting footage from GT3 and can't for the life of me figure out how to do that.

I know you turn off the traction and stability control thingamabob to get the car a little more squirrelly but can't seem to really drift cars around the track.

any comments and suggestions would help.

what kinda car you trying to do it in?
 
On the road (not dirt)

The trick is sixfold
1) the right car
2) the right suspension
3) The right angle
4) practice
5) practice
6) practice

1) the only cars you can do this with (consistantly) are POWERFUL front engine, rear wheel drive cars or VERY POWERFUL front engine, all wheel drivers.

2) You need to stiffen your front and loosen up the rear. Try having slicker rubber on the rear. (WOW that sounds gay)

3) You need to hit the turn from the outside, angled in as if you are about 45º off perpendicular to the axis of the turn. If all goes well, your weight is on your front tires, and your ass end slips up and loses traction. It slides around and causes your fronts to straighten up and go in the right direction. Just watch next time you overestimate a tight turn and crash on the inside wall. Its just like that except you dont crash. Its hard to train yourself to angle your car in a direction other than the one you want to go in.

4, 5, 6) it takes a lot of practice to get it, and even more to get it FAST.

On a rally race, you can get it by pretty much just taking corners narrow. This takes practice to master though
 
thanks for the info guys. i've tried the trueno and a few other rear-wheel drive cars. in the rally mode it's no problem throwing the cars around.

i wonder if driving on crappy tires will help drifting the cars too.
