how to drift?
get need for speed prostreet or grid. imo, drifting shouldn't get any disc space on a GT game

btw, i have both those games and quite enjoy the drifting bit

but in a GT game? no no no! 👎

So they just put Drift Trial mode in for a joke? and we here on GTPlanet have a drifting section (which is where this thread should be if it stays) for kicks to. Oh and not to mention the D1GP (professional drift car) which is in Prologue in the form of the Blitz ER34...

watch this video, get in the M3, go to Fuji, apply what you have learned. don't worry about settings. and in my view if you go to time trial mode and equip the cars suggested tires, and then try to slide the car that way you will have more fun that fiddling with drift mode.

Or just pick the reverse of the track you want to do in Drift Trial, then simply turn around. Infinite laps and custom tuning, it's win-win accept on those tracks offering no reverse. Free run online is also a good place to drift.

Are you drifting with a wheel or with a sixaxis because in my opinion its way harder to drift with a wheel than with a pad.

i don't why they put drifting in a GT game, all i know is they shouldn't have :yuck:

Or because the drifting is far superior (particularly on a wheel) to almost every other PS3 game. I mean look at rubbish like Need for Speed Pro Street where the car just magically glides and you can gain points by rubbing your nose on a wall and just push yourself along it on an angle. Then there's games like Juiced 2 which make drifting the easiest thing in the world (My record on that game stands at 126,000,000 points in 1 combo). Grid is similarly easy with my personal record at 1,096,000,000 in 1 combo.

Now all I ask is why shouldn't they have put drifting in GT5P (and GTHD)?

GT5 is being marketed as a Simulator, ie realistic physics. Drifting is just a style of driving. Thus, it isn't about putting it in the game, it's just possible in GT5 just as it is possible in real life.

Games like GRID tend to have exaggerated physics and therefore don't give the same satisfaction as GT5 which should be more realistic.

Good post, well made :)

Professional drifting is big business these days, it's a rapidly growing sport and has a massive global fanbase. I must admit Grids drifting is fun, but only for me when you can drift with friends in tandem, not just aim for points because getting points is so outrageously easy.

As this is a simulator, if a powerful RWD car can't drift there's something very wrong. People would still drift even if they didn't make a dedicated mode for it.

on HSR reverse you can rub the nose on the wall in the first corner, push along and gain high points as well, so bad example... ;)
but i totally agree with what you're saying, drifting is actually the best part of the game

Well its true, drifting, anime, Japanese RPGs, hentai, ricer racers, etc. :P Most people these days are enchanted by Japanese culture and everything that comes out of the country.

Ironically, having lived in Japan for more than ten years, none of the things you listed (except for anime perhaps) are part of mainstream culture here. Sure, they exist but they're mostly reserved for geeky guys that can't get girlfriends.

Drifting as part of the game (GT5P) is fine in my opinion. Hell, Jeremy Clarkson tries to get the tail out on just about every car he tests. Though not racing, it is a competitive and highly technical form of motorsports that enjoys popularity throughout the world nowadays.

To the OP, I'm no expert but pick a high-powered RWD car, fit it with low grade tyres, turn off the traction control and ASD and you should be able to get your car to slide. Look for other threads for more detailed guides to setting up a drift machine.

Probly the most retarded post ive seen in ages

come on guys, no need to get defensive because you like a form of motorsport that's more at home in the circus

are you any good at circuit racing, or do you hide in drift mode because you can't quite cut it in real racing? :)

Probly the most retarded post ive seen in ages

i'd hardly call it retarded, just an opinion that you don't agree with. and are you aware that using the term retarded
in that context could be considered offensive?

Do you moan about the ability to drift cars in GT5P because you're crap at drifting? :)

Drifting is just a different way of seeing things , it's an artistic way of driving while having the most fun possible ,
and drifting has took an important place in today's motorsport so I don't see why any simulator games shouldn't include it.

So.. are you saying keiichi can't race?

i clicked on the drift trial icon by mistake once. didn't give it enough time to find out if i was crap or not, got out of there sharpish

now you answer my question :)

who? never heard of him

If you don't like drifting, don't post in threads regarding drifting. Simples.

Drifting is widely accepted as the pinnacle of car control, and can be extremely helpful practice for catching slides during races. It's pretty much backward thinking to say that drifting takes less skill than grip racing.

hey, the man asked for advice. i was only giving him mine, right or wrong

at the end of the day, we're only moving pixels around. we all have our own ideas how we want to do that to best suit ourselves

You are allowed to state an opinion, but baiting people is not a good idea, you're dangerously close to trolling.
At least back up your opinion with some reasoning, rather than just making remarks and attempting to cause confrontations.

Yeah, he asked for advice on "how to drift?" not "is drifting good and should I do it?".
Your advice has little relevance to what he asked.

good morning all :) my apologies, i was a bit drunk last night and was being a tad daft

good racing and drifting to you all 👍

I remember once i raced on Suzuka with 6 other players. Myself, and 1 other were the only ones who didn't drift. It was amazing. There were 4 of them all in tandem, all completely in sync. I have no idea how they pulled it off, but it was impressive to say the least.

Keiichi Tsuchiya, extremely famous Japanese driver, dubbed by many as the drift king. Here he is in 1) a full racing car on Tsukuba and 2) drifting

He's also extremely good in road cars, I don't need another video to prove it, you should be able to take our word for it based on the 2 above.
