How to fake losing to your girlfriend

I'm trying to maintain my girlfriend's enthusiasm for GT5.
She's very patient with watching me play, but I think she'd get more out of it if she persisted with trying to race herself.

She's not that bad all, but if we race head-to-head, even with me subtley picking a much slower car, I end up winning.

I tried to "accidentally" slide of the track a few times, but I just can't get away with it.
She's seen me race too often in GT mode and knows I'm not as bad as I suddenly become when we race each other.

Has anyone got any tips for orchestrating a convincing loss in 2P mode? I know it's really depressing to play someone who you just cannot beat. You lose interest quickly - but it's even worse if you win and you know they *let* you win.

Any help?

I wouldn't worry about it too much, women dont suddenly feel inferior if they lose to you at GT, if you feel really bad just take your junk out - that will make her feel much more superior....:sly:

Don't lose on purpose, you and her will gain nothing by doing that. If she isn't interested or committed enough to get better, then there is no point trying to make her.

Also, I am a decent racer but I would probably lose a split-screen race against most people, even ones I should beat because I am terrible with the smaller screen, I can't see it being easy to learn like this at all. Maybe you could let her race the A.I for a while, the bigger screen size may help and she should be able to give that a race and win.

I would agree with ASH32 but with some women they just want to have a friendly game, and of course it isn't nice if you get absolutely dusted by the person each time.

I usually pretend to be cocky and drift around my girlfriend in two player and fake a spin at the end and then genuinely try to beat an impossible drag race to the finish, worked in Forza and she still gloats about it to me. Doesn't bother me and shes happy :)

How about you just race her instead of throwing races? Because if she ever found out about it, I'm pretty sure she'd be mad.

I thought the thread title was 'How to Lose your Girlfriend'. On topic, try teaching her to race better, rather than slowing yourself down. It's win-win.

Hmm, maybe try with getting much inferior tires in inferior car is too obvious.
Also, try to get her to play by herself - for example some A-spec carrier. She'll do well vs the AI.

First of all, we need to clarify something. When GT5 was launched, it became your girlfriend! :dopey::dopey::dopey: and you can't fake...

That girl is just a waste of time that you can't afford having GT5 :dopey::dopey::dopey:

Get distracted by her. You know, like... "Darling, you pressence always makes my whole body tremble, no chance in hell I'll ever be able to focus properly on the race with you next to me!"
Then proceed to make mistakes on purpose.

Works every time.

Just race her. Yes you may win without issue but don't throw a race, she'll see straight through that, and get bored of you patronising her.

One of two things will happen, she'll either get bored and stop playing because your too good, or she'll see this as a challenge and do her best to improve through practice. Let her race the AI in A Spec in her own career and see if she improves.

What a dirty, calculating and evil mind! i like it! :dopey:

Don't lose on purpose, it doesn't help anyone. If she doesn't want to get better at GT5 then go find a new girlfriend who is cool. :)

But yeah seriously, get her playing singleplayer and give her tips as she's doing it.

You guys know what would be funny now?

That the TS comes back with a message stating that his girl has trashed his PS3 for losing her 50th race against him. Awesome 👍

Mostly good ideas and some downright funny ideas - thanks guys!

Either I fight to maintain her enthusiasm, or I'll have to start winding down the GT5 sessions a bit.

I recall her face the other day when she looked up at the screen from sewing a hole in my jeans. I'd just sneakily started the MX5/Miata 4hr Endurance without her realising.

GF: *looking at the lap counter* "Lap 7? Out of how many is that?"
Me: *cough* "Not sure... It didn't say... how are my jeans doing? Heeeey, you've fixed that hole, thanks baby!"
GF: (not sidetracked in the slightest) "So how do you know when the race is over? How long will it take? It's just gone ten..." (in the evening).
Me: "I guess if I'm leading when it decides to finish, I'll win and it'll be over!"
GF: *spots race time remaining in bottom right corner* "Is that clock counting down... 3:52 ... REMAINING???"
Me: *big attempt at "surprised" face* "OMG! Well, clearly that will be too long..."

I fear next time I try that stunt, she'll be repairing my jeans with me still wearing them.

Play Strip GT5. Every time you win a race she has to take something off. Then when she's butt neckid jump her. She'll associate something good with losing instead of feeling bad 👍

Open a PSN account for her and let her do it for herself .. The licences etc and let her progress just like you did at the start .. Gift her cars to use etc .. Then you can sit and watch her play and learn to knit.

Wake up, girls dont like console games, dont like car games, she only do it because love you, turn off the PS3 and take her outside for a drink or just walk, or just...waka waka:)

Oh you're supposed to let her win? Oops. :dopey: I was lapping the girlfriend's Gallardo in a Volvo C30 because I kept picking tight circuits. Then she chose SSR7 and I got owned badly. :dunce:

How about teaching her how to drive fast on GT5? Maybe you'll get rewarded for being such a good teacher. ;) Worked for me anyway.

Play arcade and give her an overpowered car... would be my best guess... or a handicap, 30 second lead or something.. :)
On the other hand, she might be the next Danica Patrick.. in which case, your depression counsellor is available anytime at 555...

Wow i wish i could get mine to play GT5 with me. Id happily use a rubish car to make it interesting. I think slipping on the comfort tyres are your best bet if you are trying to hide the fact you are giving her an advantage:sly:

I tried giving her an advantage in cars and tyres. She's cottoned onto that now though.

I tried to be all suave and cool about the racing before, in the hope she adopted the same karma... As soon as I hit a straight, I would hold the controller in one hand with X pressed and then take some swigs of beer and a handful of crisps. Grabbing the controller with two hands again just in time for the corner.

...I think I came off as really cocky though and it just made her even more mad!

Curiously, I did try the "angry bloke" routine.
Instead of lapping her, I approached her from behind(!) at a corner and then punted her straight into the gravel while she was carefully braking (I think it was Grand Valley, first corner). I then cornered gently around and zoomed off, while she faced the barrier, trying to remember what the reverse button was. I may've gotten away with it, but I then looked across at her, with a wry grin on my face, winked and said "sexy, eh?".

... I didn't get any that night.

Again... it didn't help matters.
She just didn't see the funny side of it.

I can relate to this. My girlfriend kinda dropped off the GT5 radar as well because I just simply dropped her too easily. But IRL she likes to come go-karting with me and she understands I'm far more experienced, so I just treat it like a training session. I have her just try to follow me and watch what I am doing. I slow up enough to let her see whats going on, then I'll take off and catch up to her and watch her for a bit. By our 3rd or 4th time doing it I was no longer lapping her in an 8 lap race, and she is improving.

Let her run herself, watch her, and give her tips, she will appreciate it greatly.

beat her to much at gt5 and this could happen! :)
