Well, as a Ferrari/Schumie fan i have to ask - what has happened to Ferrari?

a) their launch control doesnt seem to be improving
b) their 2003 car seems to be a regressive rather then progressive step in terms of performance
c) they have lost the skill of tatics in race strategy

For all the money they spend on development, they are getting a poor return. :(
 
Well, certainly doesn't help that Michelin have gained such an ascendency. I don't if Ferrari have necessarily slowed down as such, but McLaren (horsepower) and Williams (chassis) have taken steps forward this year, even if McLaren hobbled themselves with the apparently failed MP4/18 project.

Let's face it - after the way they've been dominating, it was always going to look bad when the others finally caught up.

Best finish to the season since '86!

Well, F1 is cyclical in nature, and we're seeing a downturn in Ferrari's dominance. The team are already talking up the 2004 car though, so prehaps they've hit some development walls that aren't there for the other teams.

Apparently, much of Williams' new-found success is down to the FW25 having a very short wheelbase.

Lafora: It was as he went into the braking zone, so I would suggest that there was some sort of stress fracture which snapped as the car went through the full throttle to full brake transition.
 
If thought that too re suspension, but it is possible that the rear brake disc failed/exploded as he entered the braking zone, blowing off the rear tire and suspension.
 
Possibly, but brake disc failures tend to be more around the hub. I've never seen the whole suspension detach like that with a brake disc failure.

Also, Hungaroring isn't particularly heavy on brakes, but that doesn't discount faulty manufacture.
 
Transmission? Could seize or something
 
I think something catastrophic happened with the gearbox, the rear suspension is usualy mounted onto to transmission and engine. For all of the suspension to come away like that i think that the gearbox may have simply exploded!

The SPEED channel announcers thought that also. Also, They mentioned something about the driveshaft possibly tearing through the carbon fiber body. Aren't most of the suspension parts made out of Carbon fiber?

The suspension faliyur on Ruben's car was weird! and he hit that wall so hard! It reminded me shumis crash when he broke a leg (:D)

Yeah they are cuz CarbonFiber is strong but light...

It was suspension Faliur... evryone knows that come on!;) :D

Anyway, back on topic...

Yes, suspension wishbones are made of carbon fibre, because it is very strong. However, it's directionally-strong, which means that if you stress it in the wrong direction, it is brittle and will break with almost no force at all.

If it was suspension failure then the wheel wouldn't have come off the car and there wouldn't be bits of driveshaft flying around. Fisichella's suspesion failed at Silverstone and the wheel stayed on his car. The wheels are designed to stay on the car in the event of the suspension falling apart - this was a more major failure. Martin Brundle thought it was something in the transmission.

Hey i allways laugh when i crash out or stuff... n-e-wayz... Maybe Rubino touched somthing or traded paint... and I am sure it was suspension faliur... maybe it was a driveshaft failiur causing a suspension failiur (cranshaft breaking then causing the suspension to break...

And out here most ppl like seeing shumi Crash out... noone like seeing a ferrari crash but if its Micheal its ok :D

last time i chked, he was winning when he was with bennetton too.

and it wasn't like he started winning right when he got to ferrari. the guy EARNED those championships if you asked me.

i doubt coultard would've done the same amount of work had he been the one that went to ferrari
