I was doing the BMW M3 event last night and noticed M. Rossi uses the BMW M3 GTR. I found that strange as I never saw it before. So I double check the BMW dealership and saw it wasn't there. More confused, I searched online and found out that it's is a unicorn car, but I couldn't find a straight answer on how to get it. I read something about how 100 random people are chosen each week to get the car for doing some community VIP event in Rivals but I'm still lost. It also doesn't help that I didn't have Forza 4 when it first came out, so I never even knew the M3 GTR existed in the game until yesterday.

So how do you get this car? Not only do I want it because it's cool, but it's quite irritating how the AI has access to a car that I can't use.

Only ways I know is either

A. The rivals mode but i believe they may have stopped with that but i am not sure.
B. You could try and get into a Game with Dev ( Play with turn 10 ) and if you win they may ask for a unicorn car to send you

These are the ways i know

EDIT: Or if you are extremely lazy you can make a GTR out of a 2005 M3

Actually the entire idea of unicorn cars I think is rather lame and unfair. The idea that there are items in the game that are not available to everyone is just wrong.

They are available to everyone though, It just depends on if the person wants to put the effort in to get these rare cars. I really like the idea because it gives people something to aim for.

No, they really arent. Number one, if you dont choose to buy a gold membership you cant be gifted them.

Secondly, there are no real events that say if you win this, you will receive this. From what I understand they're still a "gift" and they choose who gets them and who gets what.

Even in recent threads on the Forza forums, if you guessed the August pack cars right he would give away unicorns, however, even if you did, you werent guaranteed them, it was the people he wanted to give them to.

And lastly, if I'm a person that wants to buy the game, play it offline and dont ever visit forums or hang out on the computer, there is no way to even know about them, let alone win them.

My dad plays GT this way and is thinking of Forza but would have absolutely ZERO intention of ever playing online or becoming part of a community. He does not have access to these cars.

That is isnt fair. If its going to be in the game, it should be available to be acquired within the game completely independent of the developer having to give it to you.

Just my opinion.

If you dont choose to buy gold, thats not the games fault. Every game is like that, Online features will always differ from offline features, and if you dont want to fork out the money to get these extra features, then I dont see why you would complain.

Every single month in rivals you have a chance to win one every week, also there is bounty threads that if you win you get unicorns as well. Community events like photomode competitions and guessing games are also one way to win. Like I said, if you dont want to try to get these, than its on you.

Again, something that has to do with the player him/herself.

If he wants these cars bad enough, then how hard is it to finish a simple race a month? Sometimes they even let you choose them on the forums. So again, if you dont want to try to get them its no ones fault but your own.

Do you also have problems with DLC being only available to people with internet?

Because buying gold is not part of the game itself. You can easily play the game without gold. Gold adds extra features to the game, such as racing online, joining car clubs etc. The basic CONTENT of the game, such as cars should not be based on being able to gifted cars for doing something special, it should be part of the game and available to anyone that pays their $60.

I've highlighted the appropriate part. Its not a guaranteed thing. Also, things like photomode, guessing games etc are again, things that are NOT part of the basic game. Why should someone have to participate on those things to get basic game content such as cars?

How would he even know about them if he doesnt visit Forza related discussion forums? And even then, why should he have to participate? I just dont agree with it. The game should be what it is, someone should not have to participate in things that are not part of the game to get content of the game.

DLC is different, its a paid extra to a game. You cant purchase a unicorn car even if you wanted to. If the unicorn cars were available as a DLC all my thoughts would be completely different and I'd be ok with it because it would be open to anyone that wanted to buy it.

In the current state, you have to beg for them on forums, have you read the forums at Forza, its really sad, every other post or sig is someone begging for a unicorn car. I'm sick of unicorn cars and I've had the game for a month. I just find it silly and nothing more than a publicity stunt to encourage people to use their forums and stay on their knees begging T10 for things.

If the car is going to be in the game, it should be available to everyone, regardless of whether they want to buy extra service, or use extra forums, or race in races they dont want to just HOPING to get a car. Either put it in the game or allow anyone to buy it. The begging and wishing for stuff is just silly.

Suck it up dude. Nothing you can do about it :) Or buy one from someone who has one and is willing to sell it.

Do you also have problems with DLC being only available to people with internet?

Hahaha 👍

You cant buy them, only T10 can give them away. Kind of reiterates my point.

I personally dont really care. There really isnt a unicorn that I am really all that into. I wouldnt mind the lambo or ferrari, but dont really care one way or the other.

I just dont like the idea of it, it reeks of trying to get people to keep begging you for things so you can stay important or something. I just think you pay $60 for a game, regardless of how you want to play it, you should have the same access and opportunity as everyone else, and that is obviously not the case.

No, it is an option. Just like it is an option to go and try to get these cars. Yes you said it yourself, you can easily play the game without gold, but if you want access to these features then your going to have to pay for gold aren't you? Just like any game. Shooters have single player and multilplayer, but you are missing out on pretty much half the game if you dont use online. So your pretty much only getting half of what you paid for. To fully utilize any game you are going to require a gold membership, an internet connection, and have to actually attempt to try, to get these extra features that you want. Your can very well play without these cars as well.

Oh but they are part of the game. All they are, are little sidegames within the game. Everything you have to do to win these are accessed directly from the game. I guess I should be asking why should I have internet if I want to play online.

He doesnt have to, its the choice of wanting the cars that should urge him to communicate. These are set up to keep the community striving and if you dont want to socialize thats all you. Its easily accessible, but all your doing is being stubborn.

Just like with free DLC contest. You dont have to participate, but it would be a good plus for you if you did. You'd win, and if not the worst that will happen is that you'll just have to hope you'll have better luck next time. Dont expect everything to be thrown at you by the boat loads.

All this is showing is that you would rather pay money for cars, that you can earn for free if you just tried. It doesnt make much sense.

Yes it is silly, and thats just people. Everyone begs over there, but the only people actually getting things done are the ones not begging, but the ones participating. Hoping to get a car? the rival times are really easy to beat, its pretty much a guaranteed unicorn almost twice a month.

You can buy unicorns from other members.

Edit:
And the whole idea behind Unicorns is, is how it is now. If you don't like it, don't aim for one and play with the rest of the few hundred cars..

There's a difference between a multiplayer mode and plain game content. It's fairly reasonable to expect players to subscribe to a service that enables online multiplayer, bandwidth and maintenance costs and moderation requirements being what they are. It's NOT reasonable to lure players through hoops, and require them to pay extra to even try to jump, in order to access content that lies on the game disk already and is unrelated to multiplayer play at all!

That said, having rare, special cars is an OK gimmick, and most of them (all of them?) are simply gussied-up versions of existing cars in the game, so you can tune up your own imitation. But Silver users can't download gifted unicorns...nor VIP gifts. Apparently you're not really a VIP unless you let Microsoft bill you for a service you may or may not use.

In my opinion unicorns aren't as bad as the Gold-only race options that are very noticably missing from the single player game. "Number of laps" and "type of AI opponents" are not options that should require a subscription!

All this is showing is that you would rather pay money for cars, that you can earn for free if you just tried. It doesnt make much sense.
In Need for Speed: The Run I saved close to $20 (vs a 3-month sub at standard price) and up to an hour (or more?) of my time by plunking down MS points for a couple of cars I really wanted. There's NO WAY AT ALL to earn the cars without playing online matches on XBL Gold. Part of EA's push for that "Online Pass" bullcrap.

It was not my proudest moment, but given that I currently spend most of my time at a house that can't get broadband internet, I came out ahead by skipping a Gold subscription I'd very rarely use. Unlike most people I've really enjoyed the game so my "dishonorable" purchases were worth it.

I think Wolfe said it pretty well.

Its not a big deal, like was said, the cars arent really anything special, I just dislike the idea of them holding back certain things in order to make people buy Gold memberships or jump through hoops to get them.

I agree with that. Why they those options were left out of single player is beyond me. Like I said though, these things are just plots to get the community involved and socializing. Things I would gladly attempt to get these "rare" cars.

Completing them and receiving those cars is sort of a sense of accomplishment, and I really like the idea of having hidden gems. It sucks that you cant get them if you dont have gold, but that should be at the bottom of the list when it comes to not having a subscription on this game. I guess it comes down to T10 being owned by Microsoft, so they try to tease you guys into getting gold.
