Ok... heres how to get your favorite car after winning a series race. I have proved this now, because I raced the SUper Speedway 250 *2* times to make sure it worked.
After winning the last race in a series race, click "Next". While its dishing out your credits, hold down X until you get to the Prize Car Random Drawing.
You will see a black circle going around each car, but when the black circle gets on the car you want, hit X. And if you get the chance, do it again the next time around (when the circle comes back).
You need perfect timing for this.

Well you no I`ll try it but I very much doubt it will work....and from what the other guys have said it doesn`t,
