Hey guys, I got one question: How to import an American or an Japanese Car to Europe? I heard that you can import these vehicles which are outside but I don't know how.

I'll give you an example of the cars:

Buy it online or go on a shopping holiday, have it shipped in a container, get a registration on it and have fun driving it. That is how it works in the Netherlands.

Works for my country (Portugal)?

Imagine one thing: I want to import more than 1 vehicle outside my country. How can I do it legally? I don't want to be arrested by doing that...

Why would it be illegal? You buy the car, or cars, with all the correct papers, report them to the Portuguese government, and ask for a registration, and you have perfectly legal cars.

After paying an import duty, probably.

I can't find a thing about it in that website actually.

To know exactly you should contact transporter companies. A while back after some research, from America, it came around 1500€ for transport fees alone. Then you have taxes to legalize the car and fees to pick the car of the port. You're looking for a price, in total, in excess of 3000€, I repeat, from America. Japan is way more expensive. You'll also have to have in mind the price of the car.

I can tell you about Spain. I have a friend that bought a Skyline GTR R33 V-spec from Japan. Shipping was aprox. 1500€, sorry I don`t remember the export taxes right now.

The main problem is that you need an one off homologation for each car, and once you find an engeneer that does that, prepare aprox 4000€ more for homologation, plus costs for later license plating and so on. At the moment my friend is saving up for homologation.

In Germany, as far I know, it's easier and cheaper, but even buying there, you have to adapt to your home country once you bring the car.
