So last night I was playing online with a friend. After 3 or 4 matches I realized he was using skid recovery force and other aids while I was using none. So I was getting ditched every race and he could carry tons more speed through the corners, and I dont mind losing at all I just wanted a "race" of some sort.

So we all know that SRF gives a huge advantage, and my question is where is a good point to meet in the middle?
I dont want to turn on any aids and I dont want to force my friend to turn off his.
Should we handicap the car with SRF on, or what?
Does anyone have experience with this issue?

I know ideally i should just make more friends who dont use aids, but whatever I'm just trying to make a few races competitive with my friends.

One more thing, I was trying to explain to my freind how he had a huge advantage with SRF and he didn't quite understand, Is there a good way to demonstrate this point?

Play with them online (that was to answer the topic title).
Or, you could just race normally, in return, your driving skills will improve.

Play with them online.

Yes I play with them online, yes.

wise guy

Its me who isn't using aids by the way.

Easy way to demonstrate your point - ask him to turn off SRF just once and repeat the same race. He should "understand" your point after that. If he doesn't quite understand its advantage, he shouldn't mind turning it off, right?

I use it, but I do it knowing it gives me magical grip.

Just set the room rules to 'no SRF'.

Simples :D

Just keep racing as you are without any AIDS. I'm running everything nil except ABS-1 still manage to have at least a 70% win percentage. I tend to stay in the 500hp or under limit rooms and typically.. the only way I lose is either by other people having race cars or driver error.

Yes when you host this is simple but I was trying to accomidate my friend who was the host, thats the whole point of the thread, simples.

To further illustrate my question what would you guys do to make a fair race when joining a friends room with SRF and other aids on (when you dont use any)? My first instinct was to leave but I wanted to play a few rounds with my friend anyway. How do I make these terrible matches bearable, with even competition?

Then you need to run a car that's around 1-2 seconds a lap quicker.

You could turn SRF on to equalize things. Does it really matter as long as both of you are using the same settings? Otherwise, just tell him you want to agree on a common set of options and see what he says.

If your friend feels uncomfortable using no SRF, you could let him use a car that's better than yours but without SRF?

These have been public lobbies too, so If we run slower cars to make each other even we'll still be up against other faster cars using SRF.

I guess this is just kinda screwed like trying to mix standard and pro physics from gt5p.

Make fun of him for using aids until he turns them off.

But seriously, in your situation, I would just think of it as an arcade game and use SRF. It's not going to hinder you to use it in sparing situations.

If other people use SRF, but you still beat them, then all the better for you.
Racing against opponents that have an advantage over you means that your skills will improve.

That actually makes the most practical sence, even though I dont like the idea of using SFR.

Thanks

I don't like SRF, but I think actual advice is better than "don't use it."

If you or your friend is hosting, have your friend use a lower tire than you. Example, you use Racing Soft, he uses Racing Medium.

Going with higher tires overall may also cut the advantage some, as SRF only works when the car is skidding. The higher the tire, the less a car should slide, and the less SRF should do.

In public room, I don't know what you should do. If you don't know the host, he might not be willing to trust you with additional horsepower or better tires.

Run a better car than he does or limit him to comfort tires while you get racing tires.

I don't think SRF could even begin to even that out haha.

Well you get the idea though... find a balance... give him comfort soft while you get sport medium or whatever makes it close...

I did have this problem offline. From yesterday untill today I raced the 24h LeMans race with my best friend. He HATES GT with a passion, so he was quite pissed off, when he found out that I didn't activate SFR, as it would have been easier for him to drive.

Figure out a way to have fun. My friend bought GT5 because of the hype and he cannot play the game well AT ALL. Even with the aids he cannot run clean laps. So I drive slow, ride with him, let him win races.. he even gets a big head and will sometimes do the PIT maneuver on me and laugh in his mic as he flips me out. Haha but it's all good. I feel a bit competitive sometimes so I'll play "for real" and beat him so I don't lose EVERY time but it's all in good fun. :sly:

In your situation it does sound like the best bet would be to trade off maybe? Run a race where you run with SRF and then maybe run a race where he doesn't use it. Hmmm, that's a tough one.

I am actually quite slow with SRF on, the one time I drove with it is in the license tests, and i was like wtf this. Keep it off, you can go faster without it.

He hates GT with a passion, yet you convinced him to do a 24hr race with you? You should go into sales (if you're not in sales already).

What? So you mean your current friends aren't good enough? I think the answer is to have everyone play on the same, even field.

You can demonstrate it by making the driving aid unavailable and watch as he spins out after making mistakes and you go flying by. You said you don't mind losing as long as it's a fair race, so why not hold everyone in that race to the same standard?

This is very easy to do as the host of a room. I always do this, I'll leave everything off except the Driving Line--but if someone requests TCS enabled for a Viper, Ruf, etc. then I'll make an exception for that. This goes for my friends who are inexperienced as well; they have to learn somewhere!

A friend of mine does the same but we have an agreement that he keeps all the other aids on and those slow him down enough to keep it fair, unless I spin out!

You sure you're not thinking of ASM? SRF gives you more grip when you start to slide, making it possible to go through corners faster, and apply throttle faster. If you put two evenly matched racers up against each other, but gave one SRF and not the other, the one with SRF will post better lap times.

To the OP, personally I'd try to ease them into playing without it. Try and host your own lobby and race with low horsepower cars so it's hard to lose control. Then steadily move your way up to more powerful cars. The only way to get better is practice.
