OK, it's a really sorry excuse for a thread, but I'd really like to know how to pronounce the name "Yesugei" - the name of Genghis Khan's father. I've googled it to death for a week and learnt a lot about the khan but nothing about how to pronounce his dad's name.

So, is there anyone with a bit of Mongolian ancestry in their veins out there...?

It's probably just phonetic because the Mongols used their own script or the cyrillic alphabet.

Gotta love it when people ask online how to pronounce something.

BTW, it's pronounced like Yesugei, and that's about all most of us can do in typing.

I don't know mongolian, but if it's anything like the other asian languages it's probably something along the lines of "yeh (as in yes) - su (as in a short sue) - gay (as in gay)."

I always thought it was Yeh-sue-way.

(googles it!!!)

Yeh-sue-kay?

You've never seen a phonetic spelling before? All dictionaries have them.

Thanks for all the attempts so far, and thanks for the thread move. Sorry it was in the wrong place!
