How to Save progress in GT5?

Greetings,
Something went wrong with my PS3 system. I tried all of the steps to get it working and finally step 5 did the trick. Unfortunately, I lost all my progress (about three years worth). The PlayStation Store had some of my info "saved" and so it gave me several cars to restart my progress. It has my old screen name and I use it...but doesn't have the stats. BTW...I did have to create a new login name. Maybe that is the problem?

Anyway,
To keep this from happening again. How should I save my progress? I have an external hard drive I can use.

Thanks in advance.

Maybe it is a plan by Sony to get me to buy the new PS4?

I always save my progress to a USB for backup. And if you save using PS plus you can only save on it only once a day. By using a USB you can save on it many times that you want in one day.

Goto saved data utility, find your Gt5 gamesave press triangle to copy and select your device, or you could always just buy PS Plus which automatically uploads your gamesaves to Sony servers daily.

If your main save data was lost, you can load the backup save data if you have it in the ps3.

Greetings,
I tried the USB...but PS3 didn't recognize the thumb drive. I tried a second one...no luck. I did see the option for on-line storage. That might happen when the new PS4 shows up.

Will there be a new GT for the PS4?

Thanks again
Kona

That's unusual - a PS3 should be compatible with just about anything you plug into it.

Let's just cover the steps again, just to make sure:
  • Insert flash drive
  • Go to "Saved Data Utility"
  • Locate GT5 main save file (not backup)
  • Press Triangle
  • Select "Copy"
  • Select "USB Flash Drive" as destination

Online storage is available as part of PS+ - all you need is a PS+ account, not a PS4.

There will almost certainly be a new GT game for PS4, but don't expect it within the next 3 years (18 months at best if it's an enhanced GT6 port).

Not all USB flash drives are compatible with the PS3. Also the flash drive has to be formatted for the FAT32 file system. The formatting is probably your problem.

Not all USB flash drives are compatible with the PS3.
Hence "just about". The chances of one not working are slim. The chances of two not working?

Most (most. Not all) flash drives are FAT32 formatted - but yes, this is a potential issue.

However it's easier to work through the procedure and ensure it's correct before resorting to questions of hardware.
The USB must be a 2.0 for it to be read by your PS3.
I'd never heard that before and I don't believe it to be accurate. The PS3's USB ports are USB 2.0 compatible, but USB 2.0 standards incorporate earlier USB standards and there should be no issue. Indeed I've used a pre-USB 2.0 on my 60Gb PS3 without issue. Except the issue that it only held 128kB.

I've bought a lot of flash drives everything down to eBay specials, ones shaped like skateboard, and Hello Kitty (daughter picked it out ;) ) even the $160 Skillcraft fingerprint scanner USB.. Most don't work unfortunately, but I can say I have NEVER bought a SanDisk that did not work for my PS3, on top of that (depending on where you live) they are only about $5 for a 4GB at Walmart which is more than enough storage 👍

I've literally never had one not work.

My daughter has a pink USB flash drive that contains nothing more than a link to an online horse game of some kind, from the very earliest days of Windows XP. Even that works.

To a fashion. It holds 32kB.

@Famine
Question.

I have software that will allow the external HDD (ones that are over 32GB) to be formatted to FAT32. Which as you know Windows OS after XP it will not let you do this type of format.
Is it ok for me to post the link where I got the software on here for him? I just don't want to break any rules in the AUP by posting it first.

It is free and I have used and had many people download it before, so I can assure you that it isn't spam.

If it's freeware, donationware or open source, it shouldn't be a problem.
