Hey,

Say you drive in the fifth gear and you have to shift down to second.
What is the best way to do it?

1. Brake and shift from fifth to second in one move.
2. Brake and shift to fourth, then third and finally second.

What way is the right way to do it and why?

EDIT: I use a G27, so it's possible to go from fifth to second in one move.

Well I don't think there is a right way - simply whichever is faster.

As a DFGT user though, I can't just go straight from 5th to 2nd - I have to go down sequentially with the paddles.

Theres not really any right way. But yes, you could go straight from 5th to 2nd. As long as your speed was appropriate, but if you use a DS3, it'll go through each gear going down anyway...

As in real life, best way is the quickest way. Though in a real car you can't just downshift whenever you want to, knowing the speeds and rpm range you should be in is crucial to the life of your transmission. So feel free to go from gear to gear and peg the heck out of the rev limiters!!!
