how to stop email alerts

i took off my alerts and it seemed to just stop showing them on the forum, (top right next to Inbox). however, i'm still getting emails every time someone replies to a thread. I want the opposite, no emails, but alerts to show when i log on to the forum. help.
 
Do you have any threads showing here?

Also, try unchecking the "and receive e-mail notifications" box here.

Have you clicked Save Changes after unchecking the "and receive email notifications of replies"?
 
Yes, when I went back to check again, the box was already unchecked.
 
Famine's suggestion defines what happens when you reply to new threads in the future; it does not impact your existing thread subscriptions.

Go to your watched threads page, check the box next to the threads you want to stop getting emails from, then scroll down to the bottom and choose the "disable email notifications".
 
Oh thank you, my inbox had turned into a nightmare the last few days.
