How to tune out tyre wear and other questions

Some cars in GT5 just burn through tyres, the Toyota 7 seems to be particulary bad. What the best solution to this? Softer suspension?

Another oddity I can't explain is cars that can almost smoke their tyres for entire lap but yet not wear their tyres too badly. Since I've got to the point with GT that all I have left to do is tune things to stupid power levels, I've noticed you can create some monster drift machines that seem to have no traction at all but don't burn through tyres. What's going on?
 
If you watched Formula One on Spa Francorchamps you would have seen a lot of camber which ruined their tyres. But without camber there's worse handling.
