I have the wheel in my signature. I've read in some other threads about GT5 giving an unfair advantage to those who use an e-brake in hairpins. I have found the hairpin license tests to be some of the ones I can't get gold on. I could really use a trick to improve my times on these (especially B5) Can someone please explain this technique to me. Is it simply briefly tapping the e-brake mid corner or is there more to it than that.

I remember I got B5 gold by just using the grip way.

Maybe if you e-brake into the corner then you can remove the understeer and exit quickly?

I golded B (and A) with DS3 and no e-brake, but I could see where it would certainly help in the IC hairpin test. (I know I got silver, but might be gold, can't remember, with a logitech momo in that one)

Basically it would be like drifters in pro level, use the e-brake to initiate the slide, rotating your car faster than you could otherwise, and like Counter_Z23 said, remove the understeer and get on the gas sooner. Like anything else it'll just take lots and lots of practice doing it.

Yes i found B5 tricky too for such a low level test but got gold in it. I found the S licences easier to gain gold in than some of the lower test. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the difficulty.

P.S. i have no idea what an e-brake is , would someone care to explain please , sorry for my ignorance but i was 41 year old before i was allowed out of the "dark place" (the cupbord under the stairs) so i haven't been in the real world so much (joking i was 42 actually) ?

E-brake is a shorter version of Emergency Brake or Hand Brake.

The concept is that when you apply the ebrake temporarily it will increase grip to the rear of the car by sinking it lower. In real life you can do this by only putting the e-brake in about 50% while entering the turn, and releasing at the apex, while increasing acceleration to compensate for the resistance added by the rear wheels slowing.

In real life i've only done this in FWD cars, in a RWD i could see how easy it would be to cause massive amounts of understeer rendering this useless. I'm not too sure how well it works in game on RWD/4WD.

Thank you for the information , something i have never done E brake, you live and learn as they say , even after age 40+ .Your replies are much appreciated.

I thought the idea was to cause oversteer by temporarily locking the back tires and getting them to drift slightly, but without causing weight transfer. Now I'm really confused as to what this does.
