how to use own car in 2 player mode?

as topic,
i remember in my friends house he used his own car.
when i played back this game again, i couldnt find the option for using my own car.

I don't remember exactly as it's a long time since I've played against a friend but there are options named "1" and "2" near the other car options. The number indicates the memory card slot (pick the one in which your card is). It gives you your own cars.
