How to win the karts races in National A series ?????

My Ps3 died and I got a new ps3 and had to start over again. Up to 32 percent done so and the karts are holding me up from finishing National A series. I don't have steering wheel. any help or idea on how to win. Thanks you.

Adjust the gearing - make the kart slower on top speed, but faster on acceleration for tight tracks and do the opposite for longer tracks such as Silverstone Stowe. Try to avoid braking, but when you have to brake, do your braking in a straight line (karts don't have a differential, they have a solid rear axle so are very prone to spinning if the brakes are applied while turning). Some people add a little ballast to get the kart more balanced. As Thomas said you can now switch on driving aids if you can't win without them.
