I'm not trying to be silly here...

I only recently re-purchased a PS3 with GT5 (after a year off) and decided that this time, rather than be frustrated with the game, I would make it my own.

So -

Started off by doing a few of the Seasonal Events, which boosted my finances and XP to absurd levels very early. I admit I basically cheated my ass off by just sticking on RM tires for most of them because I'm both greedy and impatient.
I'm not going to bother with; License tests (meaningless), nor will I even click on "B-Spec" (not one single mile will I put myself through). Refuse to take part in the Top Gear challenges, or NASCAR, or Karting. I also reject the idea of the Vettel X2010 challenge because, if I remember correctly, that particular car ruined the feel of every other vehicle thereafter the last time out.
I realise that I "need" to complete the B-spec races in order to collect certain cars, but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make this time around.
I also have no ambitions to collect all GT5 trophies so no problem there.

I'm just going to do the races I actually want to do this time, and at my own leisurely pace, without feeling forced into suffering bizarre Japanese game design oddities (like Idiot-Spec).

What about you? Do you throw your controller across the room in despair while watching Bob casually lose another race you need him to win for "that car"? Have you tried 100s of times to master Suzuka in the X2010 for that elusive gold? Or like me do you just not give a hoot?

I mostly play to win the best car and to feel accomplished. I mostly do B-spec for the cars and money and barley have any honor in racing I just pull out a redbull and win it. I don't do licences or most special challenges mostly because I have other options to gain money. But mostly I play to have fun.

Well, I do agree with you in most points. I've started GT5 for the third time now (last time due to my file getting currupted when attempting an update) and although I'm in A-Spec level 37 (or 38, I don't know, I never pay attention to that) and have all the events finished except for FGT and Endurances, I haven't bothered playng B-Spec or doing the liscenses.

The game is unfortunately terrible when it comes to progression in which you can go through almost every single aspect of the game without the need to complete certain things. Proof of this is that this last time I started the game, I went straight to the seasonals which boosted my A-Spec Level close to the 30's without even touching the offline A-spec.

Now, when I though Ive got nothing else to do I remembered the special Events so that's what I'm doing now. All of them are worth it, except for the Vettel challenges which are absolute nonesense. The last Nascar challenge proved to be almost impossible to gold now that ABS is stuck in 1, but after like 30 tries, 1 broken DS3 and a lot of insults, I managed to gold it. I'm only missing the last AMG Driving school test.

Tomorrow I'll try doing the Liscenses. At least I'll gold the S license and get the GTR GT Academy since it's the easiest one to achieve.

Other than this, I spend my time playing in arcade more or testing my cars. Use Comfort Softs or Sports Hards in all your cars and you'll have more fun.

I just race online with as realistic settings as possible.
I haven't even done all the licences and don't have a b-spec driver.

I find the AI a bit too stupid to enjoy racing against too, so i haven't done many A-spec events and I get enough money from seasonals to buy the cars i want.

I too have absolutely no honor on b-spec either. I want to be able to start it and walk away so a red bull or fastest available car is the deal for me. B-spec really is totally pointless and a waste of game space really other than the tiny bit of $ from it.

I mostly am trying g to beat aspec with cars appropriate for the race on as realistic settings as I can. Believe me you haven't had fun until you race around lemans in a 787 on sport hards ;-)

I am on my 2nd start in GT5(ps3 died and...). Mostly just collecting interesting cars and not so much worrying about what is the most efficient way play. Of course I have done all licences to get the bonus cars and most of the challenges. Usually I do something that will advance me in the game and after that I just relax testing cars or drifting in time trials.

Lately, I've been doing hot laps at the TGTT and using the course maker to create new tracks and go for joyrides. As I've moved closer to finishing the last of the endurance series races in A-spec, I've become increasingly irritated with "rabbit" cars that are used in lieu of a proper 21st century AI. I don't have e-pals who have got GT5, so I experience inconsistent quality in online play.

I started a GTP user for PSN, so I get to redo everything! I actually wanted to re-do everything since I did all of the tests, etc. under the launch settings (for the most part). Now I get to do the tests, events, and races under the tweaked settings, and all the endurance races under the new tire model. Here's how I've started:

When forced to buy my first car, I bought something that I wouldn't win as a prize car, and could be useful in the first few A-spec races.
Completed the B-licence all gold: lvl 0
Completed the beginner Kart special event: lvl 1
Completed the beginner NASCAR special event: lvl 2
Completed the A-licence all gold: lvl 3...
I think you get the hint.
No seasonals yet, no B-spec races for a long time. So far I'm at lvl 19 with about 750k cr., completed all Licence races gold, and done all Special events up to lvl 9.

I've never been the kind of person that's wanted to 100% everything. I think the last game I completed properly was The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning on the PS2 . The only reason why I'm a fairly high level in B-Spec is because of remote racing. The only A-Spec races I do are clean shuffle races. I don't even do the seasonals, because I've still got to build myself 3 decent cars for the PP events. Or rather - have my super-tuning friend help me make them... :D. I don't do the endurance races because I simply don't have the time, and all other A-Spec events are done, apart from the FGT Championship... but I never want to do that. Ever. FGTs are evil creatures.

I played it for a couple months when it first came out but then traded it in. Considering the 6 year wait and second highest budget of any game ever released at the time, I was was pretty disappointed overall. I recently ordered the XL version, and after taking over a year off, I think I'll be able to enjoy it a lot more this time now that I know what to expect. I was playing GT5 Prologue last night in anticipation of GT5 XL arriving, and had an absolute blast with it.

I'll maybe work on the platinum, but not really "work", just take it slow and enjoy it. I think I'll spend some time in arcade mode just driving whatever car I want around whatever track I want.

As my one of my favorite ESPN football analyst Herm Edwards says, "You play to win the game", and thats how I play. I need 2 more trophies for platinum and 12 more for gold standard. Thats my aim. Other than that, I just do the TT's, and tune cars. I rarely go online anymore due to the number of immature racers I was encountering. Thats how I roll, lol. To each their own tho. Play in the way that makes you happy, otherwise, their is no real reason to play at all. Peace.

Everything he said.

tune a car that I feel like driving, add it to favourites, exit gt life, enter arcade:

1) Bring it to dirt tracks (the most fun)
2) change up suspension, usually having to re-tune the whole thing in "Setup C" or so, and drift it (2nd most fun)
3) bring it back to the other setting and time trial it on a course that I've tested similar-range cars (even courses I've created)
4) Enter an expert race mode with some number of laps or infinite, let the AI lap me once then see how many laps it takes to catch up.
5) Stare at my car
6) Play something else with porsches and 1980s F1 cars. (rFactor)

I usually just tune my cars and run remote races with myself until i get as much money as I feel I need(thinking about it the x2010 would make a nice addition to my garage) I bought the xl edition and started with 21 cars and never truly bought a first car, unless you count the 69 Z/28 that I never drive anymore lol. Otherwise I troll drifting rooms with my Honda Element.

I tune the occasional car, participate in regular race series here in Australia (so have to practice) & do the Seasonals. I also drop in to the occasional open lobby room, generally to my shagrin.

I have a second account that I am building the A-Spec on slowly, haven't bothered too much with the license tests or special events on it though.

I started back up again on this a couple of weeks ago after a long time out. This time I had a go with a wheel, as in the long run it should make me a better driver.

I did the first licence to get a feel for the wheel, but that was it. I went straight to the Specials, where I could accrue a decent amount of money.

From there I've gone in to several of the Advanced/Extreme races to build up my experience and credits. I'll get to the others eventually

I've done most of the A spec offline, and all the B spec is done, the seasonals keep the bank balance looking nice so I can buy and tune what I want, I'm more for the online racing now, much more fun and very competetive but fair in the right room:)

What about you? Do you throw your controller across the room in despair while watching Bob casually lose another race you need him to win for "that car"? Have you tried 100s of times to master Suzuka in the X2010 for that elusive gold? Or like me do you just not give a hoot?
I never throw my controllers around, even when I was trying the Vettel challenges. They're just to expensive.
Oh and was using a wheel, and the wheel was attached to my table, so it was not like I could throw it anywhere. :dopey:

Basically, I don't "give a hoot", but still got platinum. :sly:

But seriously, if I ever get on GT5 these days, its for trading or just a couple of friendly races with some friends.
I kinda lost interest when I got the platinum trophy and golded everything.

And going online isn't happening anytime soon, as my super awesome slow internet just makes me lag and ruin it for everyone else.
So i'd rather take a break from GT5 to play other games.

I don't get the tropheys for te PS3 games in general I certainly don't win at a game by "Collecting 256 paint chips".

I try to find the fun in any of the various races.

The seasonalsnow is a question of getting a car and getting a grid for a aI don't really like. Then race it.

Then reduce something on the car to makethe race a bit harder - (very Space Invaders 70's arcade game theory.)

As you repeat the ssame test you are forced to up your game,
Discover how you can optimise every corner in the car, Learn the way the AI move at certain part of the track, Learn the track and you car - Dropping to Comfort Soft from SportsHard needs you to adapt to the reduced stopping power an smaller friction circle.

I try to make every race the most it can be. Cruise and Collect driving just doesn't appeal.

Winning a badge or a virtual golden piston - With car your Grandmother could do the same feat with (With no girly man driver aids either) isn't something I play the game for.

I am however a Psychopath for the car collecting.
Not for just getting them, but like a Kid in the sweety shop (Candy store) I gorge myself buying up cars That I would like to drive, but after a stick of a few more races I check the Used lot to make sure I have not missed anything... only to buy a few more cars.

I am thankful that GT hasn't got some rust and corrode maintainence mechanics that age your garage like your B Spec drivers.

Newey Sucker Car - The learnig curve is near vertical. If they had put in some cars they provide a stepping stone to it's ultimate performance maybe it would be good, but I tried Monza... didn't "Think russian" enogh and lost time and never completed a lap.

Car is obviously fast but like Ground effect cars you lose much of the feel of a car in the corners - you either stick to the road - like a hero - or the car's low pressure zone fails you and you end up at the scene of the accident.

The Vettel tests seemed to be a huge in at the deep end mission that I didn't need to complete (Oh I get to win this Aero Wheelbarrow - Thank you Adrian... Can you get me a pair of Socks next time?)

The rest of the special events area is pretty good, Step by step stuff at Nascar and Nurburg

The AMG Nurby event felt very polished and nice.
Grand Tour was nice, but I was hoping for a 1000 mile jaunt through central Italy... again my Imagination robs me!

Loeb Rally - short one lap jobs... ouch
GT Rally - randomly generated tracks - multiple stages - no reward...
Even so I still have a repeat run here as it is fun and unknown every stage.

I gues smany people will have a "Car they want"
If this is pure cash then they will be happy - but if it is a rare car in the used area and untradable (Or you run offline) then hunting the Used area for it is the game

I spent hours trawling the used lot for a Lister Storm and a Gillet Vertigo
4500 game days in and I've still to uncover the Vertigo...
SO I run 5 days of races to check the used area in the vain hope a Vertigo will turn up.

Bottom line is I avoid the bits of GT5 I don't like and relish the bits I do like.

I have spent almost all my time in GT5 in B-spec mode while I am playing on the 360. B spec is level 40, all evenents complete. My A spec is only around level 17 or 18. I need to try and get back into the A spec.

I started out just playing through the a spec events and have done all licences and attempted all special events.

But now I just tend to enjoy myself on the game. I tune, do drift and do the occasional seasonal event. It's been at least 2 months since I last went into an a spec race ( was FGT so as you can guess I've been put off)

So yeah do what you want in the game and have fun, it's the only way to play gt5 In my opinion
