How will non-Arcade cars be fair?

I'm just curious how the WRS will work when we have to buy a car and then its HP is constantly changing. I think it takes 1000 miles or so before the car hits the max HP, and for any race events with low-powered cars, that extra 5hp will probably make the difference. Or am I just overestimating this as an issue?

Edit: Maybe if the max HP is set at where the car will eventually get to, then we could just buy a cheap upgrade to use until our engine gained more HP. Or really the max could be anything higher and we could use whatever combination of upgrades got us closest. So I guess it won't be a problem.

Now here's the real problem: Why do I have to wait SOO LONG for the WRS to start?!

You're right that those few extra BHP could make a difference, especially on longer tracks with lots of full throttle sections.

The race admins are aware of the situation, but we don't have a solution yet. We'd be greatly helped if PD comes with a patch allowing us to detect what parts are fitted. Then we can set a limitation on parts that are allowed and it would be up to the participants if they want to drive the required miles to get the maximum available BHP. By announcing the car and specs in advance, you then have the chance to get the car to full BHP before the event starts.

Setting a max BHP cap is not something I'd support, because then the staff needs to be aware of the maximum possible BHP for each combination of power upgrades (problem of being unable to check what parts are fitted remains) or participants become responsible for the amount of BHP on their car. The latter is something we want to prevent, because it's either too much of a hassle to constantly keep up with the actual BHP level of your car or participants could be disqualified for having too many BHP while they have the correct parts fitted.

Regarding the 'long' wait before WRS starts... From my point of view it has actually started already

You could have a max BHP cap to cover just the maximum amount of BHP a car can naturally gain in GT5. I've not seen it increase beyond 10% of the original car. Though there's no way of checking.

It's a pita and seems utterly stupid for cars to gain BHP as they drive more miles (up to a certain point).

It's actually common to gain a bit of power during the break-in period for the engine. Since GT5 treats the car as being a 0 mile, undriven car, when it is driven it will gain a bit of power.

I had a brand new NASCAR Camry which was rated at 824hp. After 50 laps at Daytona, it was up to 849hp. An oil change bumped it to 892hp and another 175 miles dropped it down to 841. It seems as though a long period of full throttle for many miles will cause a power loss in an engine.

Make it like a Time attack competition. You could practice during the week, and on Saturday, qualifying F1 style. 👍 This could be interesting.

Wouldn't we be "more greatly helped" if they made a patch for performance points like in GT5P? Having to drive the car 1000 miles to get the max bhp is exactly what I was trying to avoid. I think they've discussed even a simple hp-limiter, which would probably work too. I suppose there are enough Arcade cars to hold us over until PD comes up with something.

That probably means we'll get in trouble at some point if we decide to go for a max BHP cap. Also with mild tuning, there's several ways of achieving a certain BHP level. Different parts also give different power and torque curves -> the inequality remains...

The performance points system in GT5P only involved power and weight, simply because you couldn't buy parts for your car. It was a great tool to get different cars closer to evenly matched. Now with GT5, you can buy tuning parts and weight reduction, making a PP system obsolete. The different torque and power curves won't make a simple hp-limiter an effective solution either.
Like you already stated, for the moment we have enough arcade cars to play with. However I'd fancy an update anytime soon that will solve the dilemma!

Me too. Proper Time Trials in Arcade Mode with cars in your garage being reset to stock, and leaderboards(Still cannot believe they are not in).

Pd should have used the Restrictor/Compensation Weight system used in every form of motorsport( WRC, WTCC, ALMS, FIA GT).

Simple and effective, the replay should have a screen with the Hp/Weight figures at the start.

GT4 had that system in place. Hopefully PD updates GT5 with something similar 👍

Or even releases a thumbnail with some info about the replay, similar to what is displayed on the TT's.

I sincerely hope Sony/PD finds a way to prevent this and come with a proper fix themselves 👍
