How will you think about new Scion tC ?

You know what I'd really like to see out of Scion? I'd like to see them make a small, lightweight, FR car. Sort of a ressurected AE86, styled to appeal to modern buyers, but with the handling and drivetrain qualities of the drifter's classic.

I think it would be quite beneficial to Scion, too, as the drift market is rapidly growing, and, while not many real drifters would buy one, it would be a great marketing oppurtunity.

If toyota has few rear wheel drive train on real sports cars (excluding lexus)... i doubt they will be employing one on cheaper cars...

Anyways a gt four celica would be nice... and with 300hp it would be more powerful than the older versions... Lets just hope that if they rumor is true they don't overload it with weight... It would be nice, but the pic doesnt make for a beauty of a car. A two seater 4wd sports car would most likely compete with the evo and the STi, but as the only 2 door i wonder what would happen...

What does a tc look like? And could we have some specs please...

The new Scion looks like hell. A box! Who buys a box. Its up there with the ugliness of the Aztek and Element. I hope that thing doesn't sell well here in America. I can see in japan were it would be good, but here.

No way I would endorse the car to anyone.

I like it, along with the rest of the Scion line. I think it's cool that there's a company making affordable cars that are more than just the usual ****boxes coming out of Hyundai and Kia, both in quality and style.

Hyundais are not ****boxes.

most hyundias are, there Korean. I can't think of one good car from Korea. Plus all those cars have 0 quality.

I agree with you, even they use old school tech (like the eight-six), most people like old school tech. I hope they could come up with a car (name 'tB') with almost with the same size and drivetrain as the AE86 and cost $14K, now that will be sweet. 👍

You're wrong. Companies don't warrant their product for ten years if they know it's a ****box. They're not cool. They're not fast, and they aren't in GT. But they're not ****boxes.

Ok, let me rephrase, the bottom end models are ****boxes compared to Toyotas, Nissans, Hondas, etc. They're ugly, slow, and made of cheap materials. I would be embarassed to drive a Hyundai or a Kia (with a few exceptions, admittedly. I actually do like the hatchback version of the Elantra (the Saab looking one). I would drive an xB, no problem.

I agree, in fact, I trust Hyundai way more than than Chevy, Ford, and Dodge combined.

Hyundai's are on GTC (Accent WRC and the Tiburon/Tuscani).

Don't talk if you don't know what you're off on. PLEASE

Why do you think they warrent them so long?

Because otherwise they can't get brand-prejudiced American car nuts like yourself to buy them. Marketing 101: in a market full of established brands, offer something your competitor doesn't have to win customers.

(with a few exceptions, admittedly. I actually do like the hatchback version of the Elantra (the Saab looking one).

And by "I actually do like the hatchback version of the Elantra", you mean "I actually do like every Elantra, the top-spec Santa Fe models, the XG300 and XG350, and the Kia Amanti", right?

If you don't know why you don't like the vehicles I named except "because they're Korean" then you shouldn't have such an anti-Korean car stance.

every Korean car I've ever read something on had never been postive and from what I've seen the only reason they offer long warrenties is because of there low quality and thats the only way people would buy them.

Don't you realise that Suzuki is a Japanese brand?

Yeah - low quality cars with long warranties. Manufacturers love doing weekly warranty work in 2012 because they wanted to sell some products in 2003.

Then again, your bias toward American cars is the most substantial bias on this board - it makes it hard to take you seriously.

I'm not against them because they're Korean. I should have added Diahatsu and Suzuki to the list. I just find the cars to be subpar. I've been in almost all of them, and I've driven several Hyundais, Kias, Suzukis, etc, and they just feel cheap. They don't have the "solid" feel of a Toyota or a Honda.

Also, you seem to be confusing my and Blazin's quotes. I never said anything against korean cars in particular. But, since you mentioned a few other cars...

Other Elantras - Don't see any reason to go with them. The overall shape of the hatch looks good, I don't really like the sedan.

Santa Fe- Would never even consider it. It I wanted a truck, I'd get a truck. It's not so much the car itself as the fact that I see no need for an SUV to be owned by anyone who doesn't plan on driving off road. For on road driving, something like the Subaru 2.5 Wagon is much more practical, and not too far off in price.

XG350- This is actually a bit of a surprise. I actually like this car. From what i've seen, it has a quite nice interior, and a dignified looking exterior.

Amanti- Let me just come out and say it: it's butt ugly. That said, I do think that it's a great value, offering features usually seen in cars twice as expensive.

But, notice that I did not say anything against the companies or their full product lines. I was talking about the "****boxes", I.E. the bottom-of-the-line economy compacts that are in about the same price range as the Scions. I think the Scion lineup is simply a better car for the money. Plus, Scions are becoming seen as cool. Nobody finds a Hyundai "cool". Well, except for the rally-spec Tiburons, they have quite a bit of merit going for them, being real race cars and all.

The more expensive cars, like the XG350, are, admittedly, quite nice cars, and very good values. But, for just under 15 grand, I think you're better off with one of the Scions, or getting a Certified Pre-Owned Honda or Toyota in the same price range.

No I'm not. You said "I would be embarassed to drive a Hyundai or a Kia". Which is every Korean car on the market. You then made one exception. Sounds like an idiotic sweeping generalisation to me...

But of course you'd rather go with the "solid" Corolla or Civic. I'm not even going to waste my time with the comparsion, because I already know the Corolla and Civic have sunk to the bottom of that class on value and are getting by purely on name and past practices. Toyota hasn't made a class-leading small sedan in ten years, and Honda's underpowered trash isn't even offered with ABS until you pay $16700.

Based on concrete things like spec, options, size, power, price, and acceleration, Elantra is better than Corolla or Civic. Based on fake things like "feel" and "interior decor," the winner is whoever the writer wants. I have a feeling you've never spent any real time in a current Elantra, Civic, or Corolla.

But, notice that I did not say anything against the companies or their full product lines. I was talking about the "****boxes", I.E. the bottom-of-the-line economy compacts that are in about the same price range as the Scions.

No, no. You said "I would be embarassed to drive a Hyundai or a Kia". That's a statement about their full product lines. But then again, if your justification is things like "it's butt-ugly," then by all means, go ahead - make all the statements you want...

I own an Elantra. I have no complaints. Like I said, it's not cool and it's not fast, but it's a good car. Period. And the looks are fine with me. It looks better than a Corolla or a Civic, in my opinion. I bought the Elantra about a year and a half ago. If was doing it now I'd take a look at the Mazda 3. Otherwise I'd stick with the Huyndai.

On another note, I'm really surprised how many people look at the logic of a warranty backwards. Manufacturers of anything won't warrant a product they have reson to believe will end up costing them money. They only warrant products they have confidence in, and do it to show you how you, too, can have confidence in it. The notion that they are lying and the car will break all the time is ludicrous and ass-backwards.

It took me a week at work to get used to the model names. Half my customers don't know whether they're driving an RX or an IS or an NHL.

xA, xB, tC...I'm so impressed that Toyota wants people to type stuff in MiXeDd CaPs. Of course, they'll call it the Corpuscle Lifestyle Union GT in Japan.

👍 👍 So that's why the "Import" fanboys always use the chassis code! They're secretly embarrassed by the gawd-awful JDM names, but they can't admit it!

Allow me to dig this one out the grave with my comments.

I don't know what you think, but I tend to like this machine. Too bad I didn't see this one at the 2004 Houston Auto Show, I would have fell in love and just wanted to rush to get a driver's license. I think the Xa (Ist in Japan, as I hear), won't be too popular with the young 'uns. The Xb will SURELY be a hit. But the tC, I think it will be popular for young and old alike. I've gone off topic mentioning other Scions, but the tC is a sweet machine. It is described to be a "Scion you can race," and I can imagine it running Speed Touring Car or something like that. This car is elegant, even though it looks like an "econobox." This is an elegant machine on a budget. Good one, Scion. Of course, thank Toyota of Japan, since Scion is an arm of Toyota, much like Lexus.

 I like the tC's styling. Saw a sneek peek of it in Motor Trend. Runs away from Scion's original toaster box design style. neon_duke, what do you think the xA looks like?

I think the tC is the best in their lineup. Too bad Toyota's idea of a sporty fun engine is the 1.8 celica engine. Break 200hp...then you'll be hitting the sporty area.
