How would GT5 theoretically run on PS4 hardware?

Alright, obviously, there isn't even confirmation on the next playstation, but I have had a thought that's been killing me for a while.

If the Playstation 4 has backward compatibility, would GT5 run smoother? Would there be less "jaggies?" To what extent would the graphics and/or performance improve?

Shoot away!

It would run exactly the same. Each game is designed to work with it's respected console. So if a game is designed to run with 2GHz and it is presented with 4GHz, it will only use two.

Yeah, but think about the FPS for example. I bet you the game isn't designed to lock up when you have 16 premium cars on a rain track.

To answer that would require knowledge that no one on GTP possesses. The PS4 might not even have Backwards Compatibility.

If it does have BC then it would hold a rock solid 60fps, loading should be faster and shadows could update faster!

I think it's already been confirmed that PS4 will have backwards compatibility, not only with PS3 but PS1 and 2 aswell. Not positive but thought I saw that some where. I'm really looking forward to PS4 just not looking forward to the price tag it will carry.

I'm also wondering if say PS4 has backwards compatibility would we be able to play GT5 online on the PS4?

Nothing about the PS4 hardware has been confirmed. Sony hasn't even confirmed if it has been finalized yet.

And that's assuming it would need backwards compatibility to play an older game.
Did the PS2 have backwards compatibility?

Or does the term "backwards compatibility" actually mean, can play games made "back" in time?

That's why I added "theoretically." If the Playstation 4 had the specs of current gaming desktops and Polyphony Digital has yet to finish on Gran Turismo 6, I simply ask how would GT5 fare on performance?

By the way, in regard to the other user, GT5 servers would be up unless Kaz decides to take them down. Apparently, there are PS2 games that still have working Online Play. There is a trick configuring PS2 network options on BC PS3s.

Yeah just searched it and didn't find what I thought I saw. Maybe it was a dream

Also sorry for going off topic but also a question I have about the Vita, I heard it had like a remote play feature where you could play PS3 games on it. Is this true? Sorry for going off topic!!

No, BC doesn't work like that.

The way Backwards compatibility works on other consoles is it's either software emulating it, and so in some cases the game runs worse, but never better then it originally did, or it has the CPU and GPU of the original system built into it, and so it runs the same.

First off, I doubt Kaz makes every decision.
Second off, we don't play online with "PD servers".

But you do connect to a server that allows you to see other players. There is still a middle man involved that is needed in order to get everyone together to play. If that was to go down, there would be no GT5 multiplayer.

PSX games played on the PS3, assuming there are no glitches, can very much so run better than they did on the PSX. Driver 2 is a very good example, as there is barely any slowdown compared to playing the game on a PSX or PS2. To say nothing about stuff that can't be discussed due to AUP concerns.

It is possible. It just depends on how the game (and BC system) was designed.

If PD had money to burn, I'm pretty sure they would have the choice (albeit limited) to choose whether to keep the GT5 servers up when GT6 is released or not.

Aren't the GT5P servers still up or something?

Went down in October.
But at this point, the GT5 online is bad enough that by the time GT6 comes out, there literally won't be anyone on them anymore anyway.
The reason so many stayed on GT5P for so long is because they could have a better experience playing GT5P online then GT5.

Well, my Final Fantasy IX does not run smoother on my PS2.. so I doubt that GT5 would run with higher fps on PS4.. but who knows :)

If the PS4 has the PS3 CPU it will run the same if it is somehow locked to use only the same amount of RAM that the PS3 uses. Some of the graphics may be slightly enhanced by using the PS4's GPU. Sony have never included older GPU's in the next PS but they have used CPU's of older PS's for backward compatibility.

To CSLACR yes the PS2 could play PSX games. Some of the earlier PS2 had a PSX CPU for this purpose, later PS2's used only software emulation.

Considering the amount of guess-work this thread's main question relies on (read: entirely), especially as no solid details are available for the PS4, I can't see much of a reason for this thread to remain open. Whenever we do get details on Sony's next-gen system, only then will this sort of question be relevant.
