Pretty much a noob when it comes to photo editing, I only ever do a few little things for websites. So I was wondering, how is something like this achieved?
Not the blending of the source photos, but the colour overlay effect whilst maintaining the strong blacks and subdued tone? I assume the source material would have a big effect, they'd need to be dark once made black and white?
I managed to get something similar with the color dodge blend mode in Photoshop but I couldn't simultaneously tone down the light colours of the original. The person in the photo I was playing with still had light teeth, for example, whereas in this one there is nothing still light. If I tried to darken it overall, then you lose the strength of the colour. Perhaps I'm just doing things in the wrong order.
Any input would be appreciated.
