How's GRID?

I hear it's good, and since SCC is only available in the UK, and NFS:S has been suffering from bugs, I was considering this at the moment.

One thing, though: Can you customize your cars? Like, put an emblem and vinils on there?

Heck, are there any PS3 racing games at all that give this level of customization?

Who's getting flamed, and for what?

Buy Ferrari Challenge. I'm no painter so I don't know how deeply the customization goes, but the same shapes are there. Almost all of them in fact.

Oh yeah, avoid GRiD. If you've been playing Shift and you switch to GRiD, I guarantee you it'll be frisbee'd.

Grid simply cannot be compared to SuperCar Challenge (I'm unaware if this thread was created as a flamebait, but i'll give you the benefit of the doubt :) ). Ok, you can customise your cars in both games and go racing, but the similarities just about stop there. If you want a game where you can fly around bashing into things without any consequences and prefer playing with a pad, buy Grid. If you want a realistic driving game and you use a wheel, order in a PAL version of SCC from game.co.uk. I suppose NFS is a halfway house between the two, and it doesn't suffer from half as many bugs as SCC does.

Grid offers the best racing action of any game out there. It won't get closer, it won't become more of a spectacle. The damage model (and to some extent the on board view) are just mind boggling good.

That said, even I can't look past the very, very, very simple handling mechanics. It's good fun, but more a Mario Kart type game (but I still love the original MK, too).

You ought to watch your tongue, Chuck might be listening. No infact he is listening, and he's ready to strangle you to death with a cordless phone before Round-House kicking your corpse all the way to the moon.

GRID is definitely not the best racing game out there but it isn't as bad as some people make it out to be.
Firstly the physics are nowhere near as good as previous Race Driver series games (Race Driver 3 to be exact) or other racers such as NFS:SHIFT and SuperCar Challenge, but remember they are sim orientated whereas GRID is a lot more arcadey, because of this you obviously feel disconnected from the cars, thankfully though they do have different characteristics which make some 'harder' to drive than others. I find the experience is improved and is a lot more fun when the driver aids are turned off and the gears are set to manual, im not sure what it is like to play with a wheel but from what a lot of people have said in the thread and elsewhere its not brilliant.

The career events are nicely set out and offer good racing in higher difficulty settings and tiers. The vinyl and decal modification is good but not as good as Forza 2, you cannot add your own images or emblems to the car but you can create your own colour and design scheme. As you progress in career mode you get sponsor offers which increase in payout and have tougher objectives to fulfil, their logos can be applied to your car in a set slot.

If you do buy this game be aware that there is a bad ramming and cheating problem online and there are hardly any sessions running in which driver aids are disallowed, if you find the right session though you can have some great racing:tup:.

Recently I have got back into this game because of the ability to race the Le Mans 24 hours in any of the four classes with the Day-Night-Day change in different real time settings e.g. 24mins, 1hour, 24hours etc, I have spent many hours doing this and have had a LOT of fun in the process.:D

You can pick it up for pretty cheap now so if you don't like it, it's not a big loss. Of course there are other games available which offer better physics and car customization but if you are just looking for a good, fun and simple racing game GRID is the one:tup:.

Thats my opinion and a little review in one for you.:)

Right, but is the PS3 region-free? I know that the PS2 isn't.

Anyhow, if it really is so, then I think I could import SCC. Given that the whole game is already in English, there's no language barrier to deal with.

And are there any games that can do the level of customization shown in the opening post?

In Grid you could chose from various templates and adjust the colour scheme and place some sponsor logos, which actually determined how much CRs you earned for racing.

I think Forza is unique in terms of the livery editor.
