High Speed Touring - Track Days

Overview

High Speed Touring - Track Days is a league for all racers that features weekly TUNED Racing simulating the thrill of using tuned street cars in a semi competitive racing environment. Every 2 weeks a vehicle type and PP limit will be announced, and each driver may choose a conforming vehicle and tune it to their liking up to the PP limit. You may tune the vehicle using presets from a tuner if you choose to, a great resource is The GT6 Tune Database. The regulations and format for the High Speed Touring - Track Days were carefully considered to promote close racing to build skill while having fun, whether you are a beginner or an experienced driver. "Track Day" sessions begin on Thursday night at 8pm Eastern / 5pm Pacific, and feature 4x 15 minute races.

All racers are welcome, regardless of the club you are affiliated with. This league is designed to be a break from the norm, in a friendly environment that gives you the ability to choose your car, personalize it to your tastes, and compete with other respectful GTPlanet Members. Please take a moment to read the information below and decide if High Speed Touring - Track Days is right for you! We are based in the United States, but if the timing works for you, you are welcome to race.

Race Night Format
  • Thursday Night TUNED Racing for all racers.
  • Track Days begin at 8pm EST in a Friends Only room, hosted by gtp-jaydoc
  • Open Practice on track until 8:10pm EST
  • Race 1 is a 15 minute race, and counts as an unofficial qualify session.
  • Race 2 is a 15 minute race, starting grid determined on previous race results
  • Race 3 is a 15 minute race, starting reverse grid based on previous race results
  • Race 4 is a 15 minute casual event. A Track Vote is taken for the final race.

Typical Event Settings

  • Vehicles: Must conform to Event Restrictions
  • Tuning: Allowed with a PP Limit
  • Driving Assists: Driving Line, ASM, TCS, and ABS
  • Tire Wear/Fuel Consumption: Varies per event
  • Penalty: Weak
  • Mechanical Damage: Varies per event
  • Grip Reduction: Real
  • Slipstream Strength: Varies per event
  • Visible Damage: On
  • Boost: Varies per event

Typical Vehicle Restrictions (Subject to change for some events)

  • Think "street car" when selecting a vehicle.
  • Rally and Touring Cars, if it was not sold "as shown" in the version you are questioning to the general public, then it's not eligible for use.
  • If it has a number plate, it's not eligible for use.
  • If it's a prototype, it's not eligible for use.
  • If it's stock PP is higher then the PP Limit for the event, it's not eligible (very rare and limited cases).
  • A list will be available, found here, for the current month, and next month event, to announce what cars are eligible, to remove any confusion.

Tire Restrictions - Based on Event PP Limit

  • Below 250pp - Comfort Medium
  • 251pp to 300pp - Comfort Softs
  • 301pp to 350pp - Sport Hards
  • 351pp to 400pp - Sport Mediums
  • 401pp to 450pp - Sport Softs
  • 451pp to 500pp - Racing Hards
  • 501pp to 550pp - Racing Mediums
  • 551pp to 600pp - Racing Softs
  • Tire wear will always be set to Normal, regardless of Tire Type

Policies - we have rules set in place to ensure the enjoyment of all racers, please take a moment to review them.

The First Turn Rule

It is the policy of this league for you to hold your position in turn 1 and not try to improve it unless the following situations occur: 1) The driver directly in front of you is asleep on the start. 2) The driver directly in front of you runs off course with at least 2 wheels off the track. 3) Obvious race incidents that must be avoided. 4) If you are able to fully draft past someone without incident or disruption to the other driver(s) with a reasonable distance before approaching the first turn.

Holding your position in the first turn is limited to the first turn on the first lap. This rule is in place for 2 reason: (1) to effectively avoid incidents in the first turn, and (2) so that drivers who are being careful and doing their part to avoid incidents in the 1st turn of are not taken advantage of. There is no sense in causing an incident in the congestion of the first turn. You can not win the race on the 1st turn or even the 1st lap. If a complaint is filed, the decision we make will be one that promotes an incident free first turn.

Dive Bombing

Dive bombing is unacceptable, and only results in incidents. It is not the same as passing under braking. Dive-bombing is when a trailing car intentionally brakes late to dive underneath the car in front of them as they are turning into a corner. The trailing driver must move to the low groove for at least 3-4 seconds prior to corner entry so that the leading driver can see the trailing drivers intentions in his mirror. However, running the low groove is not a guarantee that he will allow you to pass, it is only an indication that you wish to pass on the low side. The trailing driver must also have gained at least a half a car length lead before braking begins so the leading driver can see his position and avoid contact.

Mics During Racing

From the beginning of the race, until the last driver crosses the finish line, your mic should be on mute. This allows all racers to concentrate on their driving to the fullest. You may unmute to tell a driver your track position if racing in close proximity. Mic violations will result in a warning, multiple may result in a ban from High Speed Touring. If a racer is on mic by mistake, please feel free to say "Mic Check" to remind all racers to check.

Racing Accidents

Simply put, accidents happen. Do everything in your ability to race cleanly and not cause an incident. In the event you cause someone to spin out, get pushed off track, or into a wall, please pull to the side of the track and let the driver retake their position in front of yours, even if it means losing multiple positions.

Race Incidents

Legitimate complaints are encouraged, they insure a better racing environment for everyone. Complaints should be addressed by "Private Message" to a race steward. Please include the lap number and a brief description of the incident. If needed, a ruling will be announced after a video review by a steward. All racing incidents or racing related issues shall be dealt with via Private Message.

Participation

Please try to participate in High Speed Touring - Track Days regularly. The idea of the event is to build racing skill, as well as friendships between racers. After 3 months of inactivity, racers will be removed from the drivers list.

How to join High Speed Touring - Track Days

Step 1: Post your request to join along with your PSN ID and GT6 Drivers Name in this thread. A Friend Request from gtp-jaydoc will be sent to you.

Step 2: Accept the friend request you are sent. We race in friends only lobbies, not public lobbies. (To join the race click on the LOBBIES tab and select Friends, also the room number will be posted prior to each race in forum)

Step 3: Choose your vehicle based on event restrictions, break in your car if needed, then change the oil. You may tune your vehicle, but it must not exceed the PP limit for the event.
You may use a different vehicle each week as long as it conforms to the Event Restrictions, but you may only use one vehicle per night (no changing in between races).

Step 4: Join gtp-jaydoc's lobby on Thursday night at 8pm Eastern.

Count me in jay*doc. I'll be apart of anything Turtle. PSN randy1122
And, well you know I already have the Turtle Town FR.

Thanks Johnsom and Randy! This series is a little more laid back, just let me know what vehicle you'd like to use for the event so I can verify that it conforms and I'll add you to the drivers list. You can use any color combo you wish.

The number of laps will be determined based on fastest qualifying time pre race. This way it can be dialed in to give the closest total race time (30 or 60 minutes depending on event).

Will we be allowed to apply a tune by our favorite tuner or will that be frown upon. Thought I should ask so everyone would know.
Personally I can't tune very well but I would still tune my own car. I do love a good challenge.

Good question Socket, and to make it simple, all tunes are allowed. As long as the car meets the requirements and PP limit, it's good to go!

Thanks Phisher! I've been working on it a while!

I would to participate, but due to the time difference is not going to be possible, if at any future change at 10: 00 pm, count me (because I leave work at 6:00 pm pacific time)

I created this condensed version from different tuning sites only taking what was relevant. I hope it can be of some use to you all.

Tuning Guide (Quick Reference)

<LSD-Limited Slip Differential>
Initial Torque - Higher number produces more under steer and a lower number produces more over steer
Acceleration - If the inside wheel spins first, raise this setting. If the outside wheel spins first lower it.
Deceleration - (braking, turn-in and when coasting) Raising creates stability but induces under steer
lowering induces over steer but makes the car looser during deceleration
Street cars 5-7 on pure race cars like LMP, JGTC, FGT, F1, 2J, etc., much higher setting.

<Fully Customizable Transmission>
(Add any planned engine upgrades first.)
Classic Close Ratio Flip - Reset to default / final gear max / top speed minimum
Highest gear max - almost all the way; nearest 5
2nd gear on low powered cars, move left a little to a round number.
2nd gear on medium powered cars, move left about half way available on the slider.
2nd gear on high powered cars, move most of the way left to a round number.
Middle gears, set to even spacing between 2nd and the highest gear.
1st gear, move left per standing starts –low power, not much, high power most of the way.
Reset final drive to the left until the car hits the rev limiter at the end of the longest straight.

Low Final Close Ratio Flip - Reset to default / final gear 4.000 / top speed minimum
Highest gear max - almost all the way; nearest 5 / Final gear minimum
Evaluate top speed if car tops out at the end of the longest straight move to the next step.
If not, return to beginning step set final gear 3.500then3.000or4,500then5,000, and so on.
Goal is to have the final drive number as low as possible and still top out @ the end of the
longest straight.
2nd gear on low powered cars, move left a little to a round number
2nd gear on medium powered cars, move left about half way available on the slider
2nd gear on high powered cars, move most of the way left to a round number.
Middle gears, set to even spacing between 2nd and the highest gear.
1st gear, move left per standing starts – low powered cars not much & high powered cars most
of the way.

<Fully Customizable Suspension Kit>
Ride Height Adjustment (mm)
Smooth tracks (90% of tracks in the game), front and rear lower by ¾.
Bumpier tracks like Nurburgring, Trail Mountain, Eifel’s hill changes, etc., front and rear ½
• Better front grip than rear, use a lower front RH than rear.
• Better rear grip than front, use a lower rear RH than front.
Spring Rate - General stiffness
• For street cars 400PP and under, I like spring rates just below the middle of the slider
• For street cars 500PP and under, I like springs at the middle of the slider.
• Street cars over 500PP, I like spring rates slightly above the middle of the slider.
• For higher powered cars and race cars, I like stiffer springs, near the ¾ mark on the slider.
Front/Rear Balance This is 100% backward from the real world and I cannot explain why. Description reads like real world, but the settings do not do what the in-game guide describes.
• For more front grip than rear, run higher front springs than rear
• For more rear grip than front, run higher rear springs than front

Dampers
Dampers need to match the spring rates. Spring rates set to the middle of the slider need dampers set with extension just to the right of the middle (say 6) and compression just to the left (say 4). For lighter spring rate settings or heavier spring rates, the dampers need to move to be at similar spots on the slider.
Front/Rear balance- Using dampers for changes to front/rear grip can be difficult. Make small changes to the front, then retest against your ghost. Then make small changes to the rear, rinse and repeat.
For more front grip than rear
• Run a much wider ext/comp split on the front (medium-heavy springs front dampers
@ ext9 & comp5)
• Run ext/comp split near equal on the rear (springs at middle of the slider, rear dampers
@ 5/5 or 5/4)
Front settings will drop the nose quickly when braking & hold the nose of the car down longer when accelerating. Rear settings will allow the rear of the car to raise and lower equally, thus giving it a quick lift under braking. I have run rear settings with extension lower than compression to make the rear of the car snap up quickly.
For more rear grip than front do the opposite described above.
• Narrow split of front extension/compression.
• Wider split of rear extension/compression.

Anti-Roll Bars
Groupings of cars have different needs. Low powered cars on comfort tires work better with lower ARB settings. High powered race cars on racing tires like higher settings. Drive in chase cam or watch the replay in chase cam. If it leans over in turns or sways back and forth through switch backs, the ARB settings are too soft. Now this may only be on one end of the car so change front and rear separately. If the car sit flat with no body roll and seems to four wheel slide in the corners, the ARB settings are too stiff. ARBs front/rear grip. For more front grip than rear, run lower front settings than rear For more rear grip than front, run higher front settings than rear

Camber Angle (-)
For more front grip than rear, run higher front camber settings than rear. Put the front camber on the sweet spot and lower the rear camber until you've removed enough rear grip to get the car to rotate. For more rear grip than front, run lower front camber settings than rear. Set the rear camber on the sweet spot and lower front camber until you've removed enough front grip to stabilize the cars rotation.
• Comfort tire sweet spot is 1.5 to 2.2
• Sport tire sweet spot is 2.0 to 2.8
• Racing tire sweet spot is 2.5 to 3.5
• Dirt tire sweet spot is 3.0 to 4.5
• Snow tire - have not tested

Toe Angle
Toe settings do seem to be completely linear across the settings. Rear toe has a more significant effect on car rotation. Front toe doesn't seem to add much corner grip just moves the grip to the part of the corner where you need it. I use front toe to balance the corner for a smooth entry, mid-corner apex and exit.
• Front toe: Higher negative number, more mid corner and exit grip and slightly reduced
turn in. Zero is a neutral setting. Higher positive number, better turn in and less mid-corner
and exit grip. Some high powered cars like LMP cars will have a low negative front toe
number, neutral or a bit of positive front toe.
• Rear toe: Higher negative number, more over steer, more rotation. Don't be afraid of
negative rear toe on FR cars. If the car isn't rotating, add negative toe. Most 4WD and FF
tunes have negative rear toe. Zero is a neutral setting. Higher positive number, more
planted rear, less rotation. Most of my FR, MR and RR tunes have some positive toe.

<Brake Balance>
1-10 are strength numbers, 1 being lowest braking power and 10 being the highest.
• DS3 - Higher rear settings and much lower front settings can induce some trail braking
over steer.
• Wheel - Run more even brake balance and often with a bit higher front settings.

<Ballast Position>
Ballast position can be useful for changing the front/rear grip characteristics of a car, but it cannot add grip. 50/50 is not best for every car. Ballast is tricky because it can help add grip to one set of tires while taking it away from the other. Moving ballast to a sliding end of the car can increase grip, if the tires have not reached their maximum grip level. If tires on one end of the car are turning red, there is too much weight on that end of the car. Moving the ballast position away from the red tires can actually increase grip on that end of the car.

<Down force>
Aero can be a valuable tool for changing front/rear grip. Most cars in GT5 suffer from under steer, so if PP limits are not an issue, I normally max front aero then adjust rear aero to get the desired balance between down force and rear rotation. Down force vs. Power in PP racing-Based on the car and track you have to decide which is best. On a track that rewards power like Monza you want low down force but that same car on Trial Mountain will be uncontrollable without aero. Try to get away with as little down force as necessary to keep the car on the road.

You already know I'm in j*d 👍 I'll volunteer for series ops support as well I'm a little green but I think it would be good for me to learn. I can also supply chips/gear/cars for prizes no problemo.

Q: In your initial description (cpl wks ago) you mentioned "no limiting". When I tune cars
I usually limit the car a little at first until I get a feel for the other adjustments.
Gives me a soft spot to work my magic lol. May I suggest a max limitation of 10 or
15% I don't know how this would be regulated though. I guess a BHP restriction
would be best then folks could limit as much as they want w/o abusing it. It's not a
deal breaker, if I can't limit oh well :)

That was an initial idea, but scrapped in the refinement. Tuna as you wish as long as its within the pp limit.

Also, thanks everyone for the interest! I'm going to build a drivers list, so start thinking about the cars you want to use. Once we start the series, you must keep that car for the month, so choose wisely!

Thanks again!

Do these tunes have to be original tunes done by yourself, or can they be tunes from someone else (ex. Praiano)?

They can be an existing tune, no need to reinvent the wheel!

I ran my 1992 delSol on Tsukuba tonight, and I think these races are going to be extremely fun and unpredictable! Can't wait to begin!!

Great, because I can't tune cars very well. The best I could do is ballast and very basic transmission (provided I use Praiano's transmission guide) settings; the suspension and LSD I have no clue how that works. I wish I knew, so that I can tune on my own, but oh well.

Any good lap times out there yet? I managed a 0:58.608 on Suzuka East That's pretty fast for Slow Poke Rodriguez :dopey:

Word to the wise. Make sure you test your car on all the tracks before choosing! Watch out for TMI. I would keep your car choice or lap times or both confidential there's no rule keeping your competitors from coattail riding ie: I'll jack your car and drive to my abuelitas house fill it w/ tamales and then act like I don't smell nothing y que la chingada pinche guey! bwahahaha

Good Point, but I also want to be able to make sure everyone has chosen an acceptable car before race day. No use in someone choosing/tuning a car and being all ready, only to find out it's non compliant.

So on that note, I've created the drivers list. As you dial in what car you'd like to use, let me know so I can add it to the list. With this being a tune series, car selection is a key point, but not as important as dialing it in for maximum possible usage on the tracks presented, so don't be so worried about others if they choose the same car as you, because it could be tuned in a completely different way! :sly:👍

Less is more homie I trust you'll keep that list on lockdown until race day just to be prudent? The regulations are pretty clear except for no racing modified or race cars does that exclude touring and rally cars as well? Just saw the list on the front page LOL I will PM you my choice asap please don't post till the 5th or I could just change cars on test/tune day that'd be within regs. Note: Just because you think ppl are out to get ya doesn't mean they're not. That was just a joke we're all brothers here and I haven't seen anyone act differently.

Don't be scared yet busted.
Nobody's gonna take ur candy from you! Ha ha

Seriously though, I doubt if very many of us will pick the same car. There's so many cars and different driving styles.
It's not uncommon for someone to take a car with less hp and beat everyone else just because it handles better and their a better driver.
I don't have a problem with anyone knowing what I will bring to the track.

Alrighty then, let me clarify. I'll be looking at the car list with a discerning eye. I might even pull some of those cars out tune and test around the tracks so I know what I'm up against. I might even switch my car after doing so as precautionary measure and don't forget about my Mexican Judo! I'm just thinking what would be best for the series down the road and I believe keeping the car list confidential would make it more interesting come race day. Not to mention sparing me a whole lot of angst comparing & worrying over whether I chose the best car possible :boggled: LOL It's just IMO it's not gospel.

Busted I believe that once you turn your car in to jay*doc for approval that'll be it. You can't change it. That's why he want us to be sure of our car choice.

jay*doc what if you set a deadline for everyone to pm you their car choice. Then you post everyone's car at the same time. Then we're stuck with what we turned into you. No changing after you post the cars.
Just a thought incase others have same concerns as busted.
