i think HTML code should be enabled in the test forum... so people can test HTML crap... put a warning on the forum saying "warning, html code is enabled, enter threads at your own risk.".

Enabling HTML is quite dangerous for a site such as this because it opens the forums up to users adding their own code. Imagine if a user were to embed a Java app into a page.

I know that you can disclaim responsibility in the thread's description, but nonetheless it's safer for the webmaster to simply not enable it.

so ppl here can post porn if they wanted, it would take just as long for a mod to find porn as it would a mod to find a java script not apporitte for this site.

I know jordan wont agree with this because i already suggest it be opened, but once again i will state my suggestion ;)

I think we should give it a try, if it becomes a problem turn it off.

*sigh* its not porn people are worried about. I can write code to imbed a Java app into the site that would crash your computer constantly when you view the page, download a virus, or other nasty things. It leaves Jordan up in a precarious situation.

So people don't allow html...

Besides the obvious security issues, it could be confusing for a member to be able to use HTML in the test forum (which is meant to be a forum to test features used in other more important forums) but not anywhere else.

I am surprised your server host hasn't complained about the uploading for the webserver. Most do their darndest to make sure that you cant upload.... Let alone allow 3rd party java and html.

Oh, I don't know about that. Don't forget that to a commercial web host you ARE a third party. Mine allows all sorts of things, like CGI and Perl scripts. Modern web servers have lots of checks in them to help stupid web programmers like me (I've only hit several of these!!).

So the web host probably won't mind what you do - they're quite good at ring-fencing individual sites.

Oh, and Jordan's got his own server hosting GTP and nothing else, so he can do what he likes!

True, but a few folks I have talked to refused to install the Microsft upload on an asp server, saying security was too much of an issue. So I just put in a pure asp uplad :D

Yes, as Giles mentioned, I run the site on my own dedicated server so that's not an issue. It sure is great not having to worry about things like that! :D
