When you go to Arcade Mode to do a Time Trial and select a car from your "Favorites" (the only way to drive most cars), it has the same stats as your car in GT Life. Which means it might have dirty oil, and more importantly, engine and/or chassis damage! This will definitely need to be fixed when we get online leaderboards, or everyone will be screwed having to pay $500k constantly to repair their F1 cars!!

Sorry if this has been discussed before. I don't know where the best place would be to post this, for the PD developers to become aware of it.

Umm, duh? The favorites list is there so you can use your GT Life cars exactly as they are.
Now we have people complaining about features working as they should? I am worried about the future of GT5. :nervous:

Not when you are in Time Trial mode, where every car should be in the best condition so you have a fair chance at beating a time. I shouldn't have to waste time changing oil or waste credits doing engine overhauls/chassis repairs to make sure I have an equal chance at a time trial.

I will have to check this out myself though. This has worried me for a while now as I love doing time trials. But I did see someone on here say oil and engine overhaul/chassis repair have no role in time trial mode. Hopefully this is true.

I think it's clear why this would be a huge pain where online leaderboards are concerned. The correct solution IMO would be to keep the Favorites identical to your GT Life cars, and then in the Arcade Mode list it should unlock every car that you've bought in GT Life (or possibly every car you could buy, according to your level) in its stock form for the purposes of online leaderboards.

Maybe there's a good chance they've already realized this and it'll be implemented when leaderboards appear? I hope so. :)

A possible solution would be to include 2 leader boards for each course per car, stock and modified. That way you would have the best of both worlds, see who can do best with what they are given as well as giving the tinkerers a great place to compete.

One thing that is clear, leader boards would give this game so much more life beyond its career mode.

This seems to be the best way to go.

I think leaderboards need to be able to post times with your tuned cars. If you have worn it out then rebuild the thing. It takes lots of miles to wear out an engine on GT5 at least 5k between rebuilds and the engine actually has more power at 200 miles with fresh oil in it than it had right off the lot.

Bare stock time trials are ok but we need leaderboards for our tuned cars. Part of the fun is trying to tune a car to go faster than everyone elses and yes that cost in game money in terms of parts and keeping your engine and chassis in good condition.

Tip just becase GT Auto will let you rebuild or refresh does not mean it needs to be done at this time.

This is why the only way to do a decent Time Trial with online leaderboards, is presetcats on each of the tracks. This way, everyone is driving the same thing. With 1000 cars I can't see how they can do leaderboards without it being preset cars.

easiest solution, this took me a long time to formulate:

change your oil.
What are you doing on a forum when you clearly don't know how to read?

I still think that a tuned GT Life car, when played in Arcade mode, should have perfect oil and engine/chassis condition. And I don't agree with your assessment of engine wear. I've watched my Formula GT and Minolta go down a few horsepower every couple races. And yes, that's after changing oil. It would be completely infeasible to keep rebuilding expensive tuned cars for the sake of time trials.

I have watched mine as well. after 5,000 miles it started to drop power. At 7,000 miles it had 10 less hp than it would have with a fresh rebuild. At 10,000 miles if has dropped another 40 hp. I still have not rebuilt it as I want to see how far it will drop and/or if it levels out at some point like it did on GT4.

My Minolta after the first race increased by 2 hp and another 2 after the next race. At 200 miles it leveled off and has not changed since. Even though it has several races on it the power after oil change is still the same as it was when it had 200 miles. Not sure how many miles on it now maybe a little over 1,000.

My Zonda-R also had 956 hp with fresh oil. It has ran several races now including the B-Spec endurance races at grand valley a few times and Laguna Seca. still has 956hp after oil change.

I do not see your point, why should it be different from what i have in gt-life? If it is set it up in GT-life, i want it set up in arcade mode as well.

You probably want to unlock most/all cars in arcade mode so you can use stock cars for time-trials. This would be different from favorites which comes from GT-life.

The original poster already explained what his perceived problem is, why it is a problem to him, and put forth a potential remedy. If you read the thread you would have seen his point and understood that you simply have a differing opinion from him.

I have mixed feelings about using gt-life cars for time trials. On one hand, it makes for a more immersive experience and increases sense of ownership of cars. On the other hand, it will cause many players to sink money into car repairs to maintain their competitive edge, make time trials about more than just driving skills (tuning skills), and may even lead to community members not sharing what they learn about tuning cars.

Hmm well change your oil and look after your car.
ITS A DRIVING SIMULATOR!
AKA TO SIMULATE DRIVING IN REAL LIFE.
If you want to drive "your car" you can go to the Practice section of GT Life. There's a separate Arcade Mode for a reason. (Although that reason is slightly unclear given the changing states of the cars in it.)

The fact that you jump to the conclusion that I do not know how to read based on my opinion that you should spend $250 and change the oil before you do a time trial shows how intelligent you really are. 👎

There was no "jumping to conclusion." I reasoned quite correctly that you can't read because if you could you would've seen the part where I said that engine/chassis damage is also retained in Arcade Mode. If you look at my original post, you'll see that this occurs 4 words after "dirty oil," directly following the phrase "and more importantly." If you're still not sure what this means, it means for every expensive car that's been driven a few thousand miles (or that was purchased used), you'll have to spend at least 500,000 credits to fix the engine if you want to be competitive on the leaderboards. :dunce:

Spending 250 credits for an oil change and spending around 500.000 credits for an engine renewal and an other ~ 500.000 for a chassis fix is something little different.... :dunce:

Why does this incorrect rumor of having to repair the car ALL THE FREEKIN TIME continue to persist?

It may not be "all the time," but spread across all the cars that you want to do time trials with, the credits add up pretty quickly. Not to mention, most standard cars come with more than 5000 miles, which means a forced engine rebuild immediately after buying... unless you're doing time trials but you don't actually care about your time. :)

You can crash and bash and drive the cars all you want in arcade mode it has no effect on GT Life. Heck even in GT Life you can crash and bash them and it takes a REALLY long time to get to that point.

Refreshing the chassis is something done on very rare occasions.
